    JOURNAL ENTRY:

In the field of acting, the actor is just a tool; he has to be capable of cooperating in a group of people to create a great show for the audience. An actor must bend their energy in order to make a much better scene. An actor must develop his/her body so that much more important things, such as remembering lines, can be focused on. They must also be cognizant of their role in a scene, and be ready to fulfill their duties. An actor must also be cognizant of what they can and can’t change; talent can’t be changed, if an actor is willing to act, then they will be able to. The actor must be able to live truthfully under the circumstances of the play. Actors must invest effort and every ounce of their physical being into every scene. In order to get better, the actor must work on what they can change. To an actor, the scene comes before any of their personal attributes. No matter how the scene makes you feel, but a real actor does it anyway. The more practice an actor has on one thing, the more time they can spend focusing on what they need to work on while performing. Actors need common sense, bravery and willingness. The common sense allows you to translate and analyze a script. Bravery allows an actor to get into any situation or role, and throw themselves into action regardless of the fear of failing. Lastly, an actor needs willingness to adhere to their goals. Acting is not for individuals, but for an entire group. When an actor puts forth all effort, they create a successful scene and a magnificent performance. All in all, acting is, according to the author, “the only place in society where people can go to hear the truth.”

  2. I learned from The Job of the Actor that talent isn't hereditary or innate. One's talent can only grow through practice and hard work. Like any physical attributes of an actor, their skills come through the countless activities that help them in skills like improvisation and public speaking. The article states, "The actor knows he must develop a body that will do whatever is asked of it, but this again requires the discipline to exercise as well as the study of movement so that the body will become as strong, supple, and graceful as the physical constraints within which he was born." In my opinion, this means that the only way to become an actor is to actively pursue your goals in theater class. Idly watching or haphazardly participating won't be effective and will not make us good actors. Although this will help us pass, this has minimal long-term effect on our acting ability. Therefore, the key to theater is not any God given characteristics but the sheer determination to become a better actor.

  3. This week in Theatre class, we utilized our talents as actors. We got to practice using our voices and strong bodies. I especially liked the warm ups that we did in class. It was a way for me to get into my "acting mode". This week I feel that the warm ups helped us see what we are strong and weak in as an actor. We were also given the reading of The Job of the Actor. This reading was to help us discover the many talents of an actor. It also gave us a sense on what it means to be and actor. I will try to step out of my comfort zone and utilize all of my acting talents.

  4. This week i learned that its not just about the actor creating magical moments but also the director and technician as well. I learned that the actor must come in a optium condition and be able to consistently do those specific actions needed. I also learned that its important for an actor to have a strong voice and bosy not only to show confidence but to show your interested into what the play is about . The actor must do things he can control by showing bravery therefore the audience can do that as well. They must have the will to devote themselves to certain things they can do and talent is not always a necessary thing. Lastly , the actor must apply himself to the text by acquiring the skills, and expression needed to make the audience feel as if they are in the play too.

  5. From the reading assignment, The Job of the Actor, I've learned that an actor must be an audience member first to be struct as actor. This is important because you can never say you want to be someting you have never witnessed. How else will you want to be an actor if you never seen what actors actually do? Actors shouldn't think of acting as a complex structure. The act of acting should come to you. You should be able to embrance the aspects of an actor. You should be able to apply an actors work to make it a habitual action for yourself as an actor. Things an actor needs are a strong, clear voice and appropriate body language. These skills take practice and the appropriate excercises. Every moment for an actor contributes to his or her's progression. Actors must exchange the script for reality. The reading stated, "...the world needs theatre and the theatre needs actors who will bring the truthof the human soul to the stage." This quote means that actors must apply common sense to a scene. Whatever a scene is requiring, an actor's job is to make that come to life. There should be an correlation between the truth of life and theatre.

  6. By reading the short story, 'Job of the Actor', i have received a lot of information. I have thoughts and comments, not all agreeing with the short reading. For one, i learned, also from your class, that there are tools an actor needs for his/her career. These tools are bravery, common sense, will, and the body. These tools are needed because they keep the actor stable and comfortable with how they handle themselves as an actor. One needs to translate their life into "actable terms", not be afraid, and to "adhere to your ideas." The reading also states how one has to make their actions habitual. This is not only true for actors but everyone in general. For example, in class, we get up after the DoNow and do warm-ups. We stand up right away because we do it consistently and want it to be habitual. In the handout, the author also says, "talent is completely out of your control." I disagree with this comment because not everyone may not be made out to be an actor, however, it can't stop them from trying and learning the skills of an actor to be a better actor. This also connects to when the author states "live truthfully under the imaginary circumstances of the play." To me this means one has to play the part of their character if not all, most of the times. They need their imagination to believe they are that character and that they can be that character. Lastly, on the last page, it states how theatre may be the only place of truth. This is because the theatre is no place of lies. One can be whomever they want and people can go there to hear the truth of life and everything. Therefore, theatre signifies truth and a place where an actor can be an actor.

  7. From The Job of the Actor, I learned that being an actor requires more then just physical performance. You have to really dig deep within yourself and express how you feel. An actor must believe in himself in order to complete their task. They have to be devoted into acting. Acting is similar to carpentry. Several skills and tools have to be put in into both jobs. By applying your skills to acting they become habitual and then eventually happen naturally. There are three things you must have in order to be an actor, which are bravery, common sense and will. Bravery for not having the fear of failing. Common sense for acting scenes that come to you freely. Will for committing yourself to the form of acting. In theatre, it can bring out truth and human values. It pushes people to come out of there well being and become a person they never knew they can be. It develops individual values. Therefore, theater is a class where students come to identify who they really are.

In theater class last week we learned that you have to have three main things when you are asked to perform: 1.)a strong, clear voice, 2.)Body language, and 3.) imagination. You need a strong, clear voice so that people can easily understand you and can easily follow what it going on in whatever you are performing. With this strong voice you have to add things like pitch, punch, pace, and projection which all allow you to demonstrate how you want to get certain things understood. You also need body language because in theater works like pantomimes you are not able to talk so your body has to tell the story. You have to use certain gestures that demonstrate what you are doing so that the audience can clearly understand you. Lastly you need imagination because this is where the show comes in. You need to be able to transform objects while you are on stage. This has to do with improvisation because as an actor you will be forced to think on your toes and make things into what you need them to be on the spot. This ideas also came up in the short story when the author stated that the actor has to be able to think on their feet because it is a part of the job. All in all I learned that as an actor you must be ready for any and everything, 'expect the worst and hope for the best.'

  9. While reading "The Job of the Actor" I learned that it takes time to become an actor. In the story it states, “All actors started out as audience members." Actors were the students and the more experience actors are the teachers. This reading explains the many different tools used with an actor. The different tools are strong voice, bravery, and body posture. Actors have to have these tools in order to become stronger actors. These tools are used for actors to drive out their imagination. In order to be an actor, actors have to be able to have some type of imagination. The imagination allows for the actor to understand the story/play in a deeper way. In the story it states that "you must understand that acting, like carpentry..." The actor is compared to a carpenter. Just like a carpenter, actors have tools and use their imagination in order to create things/stories. The actor is able to communicate through acting. Acting is where you are escaping the harsh realities of the world. This is where judging is not accepted and things are shown to be beautiful through imagination and acting. “The theatre may now be the only place in society where people can go to hear the truth” The story shows that theatre is where expression is accepted and truth is reflected. Imagination plays important parts in the theater world. The tools of being an actor are needed and are very important. The multiple things I learned from reading this short story.

  10. While reading, "The Job of the Actor," it portrays the confidence that the actor must have in order to successfully be in character for their performance. In order to be completely ready to put on the act for your play, you must understand the personality of the character you are portraying. While putting on a performance, the actor must not be nervous or pay attention to what the outside critics will say about their performance. You must be "graceful" and make sure that your pitch, posture, projection and body language will attract the audience. You must show interest in order to be in the best character that you can be. You must focus on all of the aspects that are within your control and don't overwhelm yourself with the excessive critiques. In order to be a successful actor, you must not concern yoursel with how good you are. You should be more concerned on how you can implement the skills of an actor in order to portray your character the best you can. You must stay calm in order to get in touch with your audience. Don't be self-conscious, you should be brave and put on the best performance that you are capable of. Theatre is all about people critiquing an actor's performance, but instead of letting that get the best of you, you should use that to your advantage to become a better actor and performer.

The job of the actor shows us that no one is naturally born as an actor. It’s a technique you develop over time from experiencing certain aspects in theatre. As an actor you don’t perform magically instead it’s something you must practice and develop naturally overtime. The job of an actor may look easy from the outside but their job is much more than it may seem. Along with being an actor you have to have certain traits as a person. An individual must also have their mind made up that they can be a great actor in order to do so. Once you have the correct mind set then you are able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes once you’re on the stage. You must have great voice and your body must be appropriate depending on the scenes of the play. You must be physically and mentally ready to perform on stage. As an actor it is vital to focus on your weakness so that you’re balanced. You should always worry about the things that you have control over and not the thing that you can’t control. As an actor time is very important and none of it should be wasted on things that you’ve already mastered. Once you have a passion for it. Then it can be done. An actor must learn how to bring the imaginary to life. They must focus on the text and live there for the moment despite what appears to happen in their natural life. By doing this they bring the play alive. With all this the actors leaves the audience with a certain impact on their own life. They will be able to self reflect based on what they’ve seen.

  12. The key take away from "The Job of The Actor" was that your acting is based on your skills and tools, not your talent. You should apply those skills so that you can make them habitual. We learned about some of these skills during theatre class such as projection, confidence, body language, concentration, and many more. An important skill is common sense because you need it in order to point out what you can and cannot control. You shouldn't feel as though you have to succuumb to certain expectations or what you think is needed. Rather, you should do what you want and what best suits your feelings. You also need bravery. An actor needs to be able to throw themselves out there, without having fear. My perception of theatre is that its an oppurtunity to express yourself. We have theatre in order to see our true selves. It brings out our identity. The text states. "Seeing an individual doing his best against impossible odds and without regard to his fears allows the audience to identify that very capacity within themslves." It's clear that one's adversity can have an affect on others. People could learn about themselves just by viewing others overcome their struggles. Theatre is a great way for us young people to learn about ourselves and what we are capable of.

  13. In the story "The Job of the Actor" I learned that in order to be an actor you have to be willing first to be part of the audience. This way you'll be able to learn from others and improve yourself. An actor must also realize that he should fully put himself out there to make the play/ scene as good as possible. A actor must be willing to spend years of practice to improve themselves. A actor must be self-reflective and be willing to improve him/herself. You must be able to identify exactly what is in your control and separate that from what isn't. Then you must put all of your power to focusing on what you can control. For example the story says that "An actor should never concern yourself with talent." The passage defines talent as the ability and the willingness to work. Talent isn't a gift, you have to work for it. So it is not in your control. Also, an actor must develop the tools he/she need for acting and make them something they do habitually so that they are prepared. I learned from the passage that the essential qualities of an actor are common sense, bravery, and will. If an actor develops and uses these essential qualities, they will be successful and achieve their goal in being an actor. In acting and theater you need to be true to yourself so that you are able to get better. If you cannot take criticism, then you will not be able to grow as an actor, and your acting will suffer as a result of it.

  14. In the story "The Job of the Actor" i learned that to be an actor you have to have a lot of time on your hands and be willing to put your all in something. In order to be an actor you have to be willing to put yourself in the audiences perspective to see how well your doing as an actor. You have to be able to learn from your mistakes and see what your doing wrong and learn how you can fix it. Also, in order to be an actor you have to be very devoted. You have to be able to put your all into a performance, and if things arent perect you have to work hard to get there. Being an actor isnt something easy. Acting is something that involves a lot of hours. You need to take time to fix things that arent right and be able to do things like practice and take classes to make yourself a better actor. Acting isnt something that you do well over night. It involves a lot of practice to be able to get into a certain character despite whats going on in you life. Bottom line acting isnt something that is easy or that can be done in a single hour. You have to put your best in all your performances and most of all never give up.

  15. From "Job of an Actor" I've learned a few key points about the role of the actor. One thing I've learned is that theatre doesn't revolve around the actor. When most people think about the important aspects of theatre they probably think about the actor being the most important. However the actor is just one of the numerous aspects of the world of theatre. It involves directors, technicians and more. Another thing I've learned from "Job of an Actor" is that before an actor became an actor they were once the audience. From this experience of being the audience at once upon a time the actor can take their experience of being the spectator and enhance their acting ability by knowing what the people want. This story also helped me realize how talent shouldn't be an actor's concern. Overall these are the main points that I have concluded by reading “Job of an Actor”.

  17. From reading the short story "The Job of the Actor" I learned that there is more than just acting that an actor must do. I learned that the actor must evaluate themselves in order to satisfied with the work they give. This means that if I, as an actor is unhappy with the way I project I must do everything in my capability to turn that around and change that. I also learned that the actor cannot do much but bring himself to the play. The actor doesn't make the play, the play makes the actor. This opens my eyes because a person, like myself, usually watches a movie and or play because of the actors not because of the actual script. I once thought the actors made the play, and from reading this short story I learned that is not the case. The most interesting thing that I learned was that acting is a skill and you need the proper tools to be good at it. Actors are people who play someone they are not and they have a lot of bravery to do so. It is hard to attempt to be someone you are not but actors make it seem so easy, and that is because they are brave and dedicated. They are the only people that can be complex and it be okay. The actor has to be driven and have his or her own values to be to inspire other people and their audience. In the reading it states, " the theatre may now be the only place in society where people can go and hear the truth". I would have to agree because you can do anything a theatre and not be judged. The theatre is a safe place to actors, and an inspiration to people.

  18. From "The Job of the Actor", what I learned is that there are certain things that one can and cannot control. For example, talent is something that cannot be controlled. Talent is innate; one cannot simply gain talent. That is why one must use all of their talents applicable in theater. Another thing not within one's control is their feelings. One cannot go into a play with pre-determined feelings for their character; that's not how life goes. The person is acting, giving the character life, and the controlling of the feelings isn't exactly going to give the character life. What will is to be natural; let the feelings flow with your script. Also, there are some things that are needed in order to be a successful actor. One of those things is bravery. Without bravery, one will not be able to fulfill the character's role. With bravery, one will be able to fulfill the role and go beyond of what is expected of them. Another thing needed is common sense. Common sense is essential because without it, one is lost. Common sense helps you become the character because the person would know the character and the person would know the right decisions to make for the character. Also, learn the character. If someone is simply reading their lines, with nothing else, just a dry and monotonous voice, it's not very exciting; it's horrible to watch. Learn the character, become the character, and then leave from it. It is a temporary commitment to the character, yet what is learned from the character is to stay with you in order to become a better actor.

  19. After reading, "The Job of an Actor," i've learn that there is a lot more to acting than just being talented. You have to have a set of skills that you use to benifit your acting. Some of these skills are eye contact, strong voice, and most important, a passion for what you're doing. Having a passion for acting will make your perfomances stronger and will send a good vibe to the audience. also, to be a good actor you must have confidence, bravery and commen sense. You must be able to think on your feet when acting when it is necessary. When acting, your mind and your body must be in agreement. You must be able to think one thing, and apply it in your performance through your gestures. by applying all of these skills when acting, they will become habitual and will stregthen your acting overall. Being an actor also means that you have to be a respnsible person. You are the only one who wuill make yourself a better actor anad you have to realize this before it is to late. You cannot rely on others to constantly be at your side to guide you to become a better actor. You have to be mature enough to move along by youself and become the best that you can be. Reading this story has helped me realize that talent is key when acting, rather the skills you put forth are. Overall, this story has given me a lot of valuable information that will benefit me as an actor.

  20. After reading "The Job of the Actor" there are many qualities that i understand you need to have inorder to be an actor. The first thing you need to understand is what you can and cant control. this means that as an actor you need to focus on what about yourself you do have the power to change. worrying about things that you have no power over will lead you nowhere. you have to have a strong voice. this is needed because the body has to be strong and you have to be ready to take the stage. the next skill required is common sense. by that i mean you need to be able to take a script and translate it. the reason being you need to understand and make yourself into what you understand from that script. another skill is bravery. this is key to a true actor because you have to be comfortable on stage and express that scene and character to the fullest of your ability. you shouldnt be afraid of making any mistakes because fear means that before coming on stage, you didnt better yourself to be prepared and fearless. the final skill needed is the will. you should have the will to be better and take control of what you can. your will is what drives you as an actor to give your best inorder to perform at high expectations of others and yourself. once you've mastered these skills you have nothing to fear. you wont have to worry about what to change because whatever happens to you, you can control and execute to perfection. this is what i've learned from "The Job of the Actor"

From reading "The Job of the Actor", I have learned what it takes to be an actor. We also learn what an actor has to go through in order to be a successful actor. To be an actor, it takes devotion, bravery, common sense, and many other things. The text says that if you comply yourself to these standards of an actor then you'll be a successful one. This text also tells us that you shouldn't concern yourself with talent because you either have it or you don't and if you don't have talent, then you're wasting your time searching for it. The author describes acting as a craft set of skills and tools. The lesson of this reading is that in order to be an actor, you have to have a certain set of skills that certify you as one.

  23. From reading "The Job Of an Actor" you see that in order to be a successful actor you need to realize that acting requires bravery, common sense , and a lot of will. You have to be devoted to the arts in order to successfully succeed as an actor. An actor always starts out as an audience member. In order to make it , you need body supple. Your body has to be able to do what it is asked to do. An actor needs discipline to exercise and they need the study of movement in order for strong body supple to develop . One must also understand that acting is not about talent . You either have it or you don't. Talent is in your control. The only talent that you need , according , to the reading , is working. You simply just need to apply yourself in learning the skills of acting. An actor must also understand what is asked of them . They have to understand the text they are reading and learn how to live them out on stage. Without the skills and tools needed , one can not make it as an actor.

  24. During the reading of “The Job of an Actor,” I realized that in order to be a successful actor or actress there are several tools you need. Instead of focusing on just talent, it is important that you are disciplined. You must be focused on things you can improve about yourself. One of the most important tools to develop is a strong voice. Obviously as an actor or actress there is an immense amount of speaking that you must do. You must portray an emotion or feeling to the audience. Another necessity is to be willing and brave enough to do your job. It is difficult to stand up in front of any number of people and provide them with a message. As an actor or actress you must be able to step into the role of a different character and show that completely different character to an audience. However, along with the factors you can change, you must recognize that there are things you cannot change. The opinions of the people who cast you are set in stone, and it is impossible to choose these things. Therefore, as an actor or actress it is imperative that you have a tough skin. In my own development as an actress, I want to be able to work more on being brave enough to be in front of the crowd. I have a strong voice, but I want to become better at using inflexion to show a specific emotion. So far, this has also shown me in my life, I have to be ready to accept the decisions of people who may say no to me. There are things I won’t be able to change, and in these situations I need to think of what I can do that is in my power to become better. In general this article started off what I needed to start a journey of what I am going to do in the future of theater.

Reading The Job of the Actor you realize and learn that there is more to acting than what we actually see. First and formost an actor must have a stong, clear voice which demonstrates the audience that you have confidence in yourself and your role. Secondly an actor must develop a strong body which will allow them to do what the role needs for them to do.The actor will need disciplne to excercise and build the strong, supple body they need. An actor also has to have much bravery in order to look within themselves. By looking within themselves they determine their own shortcomings. With these jobs the actor has to devote himself in doing everything he can to correct the things he has control of. To help an actor with this its best to realize the responsibilities they do have and seperate themselves of what they cant control. An actor has to be able to realize that talent is out of their control and its either you were born with it or you wasnt. Lastly, the jobs of an actor is within the tools needed for an actor such as: voice, body, and imagination. In closing, theatre needs an actor to bring the truth to the stage and theatre needs to be the place people can go to hear it.

  26. After reading the passage entitled, "The Job of the Actor', I managed to pull away key facts and take a ways, and imperative information that would affect how you or even myself portray and present my/yourself as an actor or actress in the real world. Reading further and further within the passage, I was introduced to this term called "optimum condition", I was a bit curious of what the phrase meant, but the requirements to achieve such "condition" made it clear. As an actor it is necessary to have a strong, clear voice and good amount of skill in projection; for most people it's also hard to achieve this goal resulting in the them participating in training and vocal exercises. It is also vital for the actor/actress to develop a body that's willing to do anything it's asked of to achieve the requirements of the play. This in itself isn't an easy task either because the body has to be strong and graceful. Another necessity is the actor being able to determine their own shortcomings, especially the ones he/she can control, and eventually change. The imaginary circumstances of the play are also a major part upon the skills of an actor, basically deciding what's happening in the play. Acting as said in the text a craft with a definite set of skills and tools and shouldn't be looked as a talent, but the main tools towards a successful career in acting requires common sense, bravery, and a lot of will.

  27. By reading "The Job of the Actor" i've learned that there is more to being an actor than just acting. I learned that you have to be connect with your self on a completley different level so that you are able to compete a job to the best of your abilty. Your not apart of acting, acting is apart of you. When act your reaching deep down inside yourself inorder to connect with the character that you are playing the roll of. The fact that every actor has once been in the audience goes to show that everyone knows what it LOOKS like to connect with there inner selfs. Every actor that an audience member has seen has whitnessed that actor take self assurance to a new level. Every powerful actor is a great self-reflecter.

  28. According to the short story "The Job of an Actor" the author conveys the message that being an actor isnt just reading a couple of lines in front of a camera; Howevwer, thats what we usually believe. Acting goes beyond reading lines, stepping out of character for a scene in front of a camera. There's so much more to acting. It takes alot of time to be an actor because like any great professional you have to practice. I use to always think to myself, "im very dramatic, and i can memorize really quickly, so i should be an actor," but after reading this article i realized that im missing out on the other components of what it takes to be an actor. You need a strong clear voice, you need dedication, patience, and you need to be able to switch into the mind set of different characters that you'll experice as an actor. No one is perfect whic is another thing i learned from reading the shoprt story. Furthermore, like the author said, "as an actor you should never concern yourself with talent.Talent if it exists at all, is completley out of your control." With that being said you have to keep in mind that acting isnt for everyone. There are such things as good actors and bad actors. Bad actors are those who wait for talent. Good actors are the ones who chase after it.

Reading The Job of the Actor helps you break down the role of a real actor. Being an actor is not an easy task you must posses the capability of being a well rounded person. An actor must have a strong clear voice so that auidence can feel the passion within the words they are saying. Being an actor means you have to have the flexibility to become anybody new at any giving moment. An actor's job is a new adventure everyday, only the creative and strong can survive. I think that i have the right tools it takes to being an actor because I am witty , I have passion and I love the whole idea of being a different me. Being an actor to me means stepping out of yourself and tackling a new task. I love being different people and I have multiple personalities. I think the emotions and the stories I could tell can make me a stronger person and people would be moved by my words. The tools an actor need to carry is not within everyone but I think I have it within me.

  30. After reading the passage "The Job of an Actor" I learned that being an actor requires a lot of self reflection and hard work. The actors we see today were not simply born with the attributes they have. It all takes a lof of hard work. Actors work together with everyone involved in a project to make it great. They are not the only ones that produce greatness. Yet, an actor must be in optimum condition in order to fulfill their role. Being in optimum condition require constant repetition of things so that they become habitual. Qualities such as a strong, clear voice requires years and years of practice. Having a strong body requires a lot of exercise. An actor must do a lot of self reflecting in order to be able to identify any shortcomings they have and be able to take criticism in order to improve. The last thing I learned was that when playing a role, an actor must be able to identify with the scene or character. When he is able to do this, the connection between the actor and the character allows for much more believable and passionate acting. Just like anything else, acting requires tons and tons of hard work in order to be great.

After giving much thought to the reading, “The Job of the Actor” I realize that being an audience member is just as important as practicing to become an actor. Witnessing a performance, you are able to pick up ways to use your body, voice, and props to capture the audience’s attention and make their acting believable. Not only this but how to utilize all your resources too communicate exactly what is intended in your scene. By having the perspective and reactions of an audience you are able to find out exactly what you need to accomplish in order to seduce your audience members. Like stated in the reading, performances are made up of the audience, director, actors, and technician. The reading also made me realize how important a strong voice is for an actor. This connects to me because I just naturally have a very low voice and I would have to “train my voice” in order to naturally have a strong voice while performing to capture attention. Performing also requires a strong body, and for the actor to be honest with himself and correct anything that needs fixing. The passage sates, “As an actor you should never concern yourself with talent”. This shocked me because I’m ALWAYS thinking about talent and whether or not I can actually do something. Sometimes I give up or never even try things because I think I’m not capable of doing it. As an actor you have to train yourself; acting can't be inherent.

  33. This weekend we were instructed to read about "The Job of an Actor". In this we learned that actors have to be in control of everything that they are in within their control. An actor is seen as a physical prop that conveys and contributes to a picture illustrated by the directors, writers, and technicians. The article explains that you have to separate your responsibilities and itemize what is within your control to concern yourself with what is mainly important to this character. The article explains that it is an actor's job to be both truthful and believable in imaginary circumstances of play. A successful actor has to use their tools and skill to improve in their craft/art. I agree with this article because actors have to learn how to portray a character before they take on this role. All of our warm ups in class are leading up to just building the tools required to become an actor with strong tools for their bag. To me, this article shows what is in store for theater class this year. I know that I will need to improve both my self confidence and will in order to be prepared for what is to come. I will take the articles advice in order to be prepare for Mr.Peterson's class.

According to the short story "The Job of am Actor" the author conveys the message of how to be a true actor and what it takes to be one. The author is trying to convey how it is not easy to be an actor and its not A simple job to do. The qualities of an actor you must have a clear , strong voice to project to the audience so they can be engaged in the scene. You also must do a good job in portraying a fake characters personality , in meaning becoming a character which is really not who you are. Only talents of being an actor is not something you are born with, its something you have to develop over time. In The article it states about actors ,“The actor knows he must develop a body that will do whatever is asked of it,”. This means the actor has to be someone it really is not. The character has to become and imaginary person with qualities of what the director wants that actor to be. This happens by having a wide range of imagination which can help you complete your task. This short story showed me the true qualities of being an actor and what it takes to do good in theater class this year. It shows acting may seem easy but it truly is not from the inside. On can learn the true qualities of what it takes to be an actor is by reading this short story and conveying the message of what the author wanted us to know.

  35. After reading this short reading, I have come to realize that being an actor has nothing to do with talent. The only talent you need is being able to work. You need certain skills to be an actor. When you find out, what those skills are, you have to practice them. You must practice them until they become habitual.I have also learned that society needs theatre. In theatre, you must bring a true human soul to the stage.I agree with the reading when it states, "Acting requires common sense, bravery and a lot of will: the common sense to translate whatever you are given into simple, actable terms; the bravery to throw yourself into the action of the play despite fear of failure..." I agree because an actor has to be able to deliver a great performance. An actor can't be afraid to show their mastery of the skills required to do this. I also agree with common sense because without common sense, your acting would be terrible. You would'nt know how to put certain emotions and feeling into certain pieces.

From reading, "The Job of the Actor" I have learned that an actor is not an actor until they develop the circumstances of an actor. An actor must devote themselves into doing everything they can do in order to find control in themselves. I now know that an actor cannot describe themselves as talented. Talent is just something that you have or do not have. When acting or performing, one must not try to feel, but actually understand what the character is feeling or trying to portray. Bravery and will must also be in the characters mindset. They must live and breathe the art of theatre.

Respectively looking at the short story "The Job of An Actor" the author is trying to convey the message of how hard it is to be an efficient and true actor. The author states that being an actor is not an easy or a simple job to do. An actor must always be confident, loud and be truthfully fictitious. When I say truthfully fictitious, I mean that the audience must believe your role. The role needs be honest because if not the author’s purpose is voided. The role is fictitious because it is the shoes you are stepping into. Also, one must be able to separate issues or complications as an actor. It is very easy for example to play an upset role if you are upset, but it is not an easy task to play a happy role if you are upset. One must be able to whole heartedly become the character leaving all outside issues outside. In addition, an actor must know their character. If one just steps into the role without getting a feel for the character, they will not be as successful if they know the role for themselves. This article has taught me a lot about being an actress. The tools of the craft are essential and this article has taught me that being an actress is not easy. It requires skills that are important for life and our theater class with Mr.Peterson.

  38. according to the reading, " The job of the Author" i have learned that being an actor basically involves you doing what YOU have to do because you have cant impact what the audience thinks about your performance. he talks about how it is hard to not let your mood get in the way of the job that you are doing. from this i have learned also that it isn't up to the director , the stage managers or anyone other than the actor to make sure that the performance that they are doing is being done to the best of HIM/ HER ability. bravery is also very important as far as how you are acting on the stage and how you allow others to impact you as you perform. talent isn't at all important while you are acting because you just need to be a hard worker and be willing to do the work to become a good actor. nothing is just going to come to you. there needs to be effort on both sides of the job because someone else cant want it for you more than you do or it work out.

  39. From reading "The Job of the Actor" I learned that there are several keys to being an actor. An actor has to show intrestest in what they are doing. For instance if an actor is on stage they must use a strong voice. This is so the audience will be able to hear them. And also they have to use body languge to captuure the audiences eye's.This is so they will take intreset an enjoy your performance. And also as an actor you must find what your good at and what your not. This will allow you to set goals for yourself so you can improve as an actor. And also you must not look at yourself as having Talent. You just have to believe in yourself. And use your techniques to improve and better yourself.

The article "The Job of the Actor" showed me that actors should not be concerned with skills. This is the case because at the end of the day there are some things the actor can control and others he cant. All an actor must do is be able to full become a character. They need to have the ability to convey a certain message to the audience. Actors must also have a strong voice. This voice will let the audience know the actor is serious and has spent time as well as effort into this role. The article states that the actor needs "common scene, bravery and an awful lot of will". With these keys theater will become easier.

  41. The short story called the "job of the actor" embodies everything that we have learned in theater class so far and also what we shall learn in the future. For example, it goes into great depth about the importance if an actor's tools. In order to use those tools effectively an actor must acquire great skills and technique. In order to develop these skills an actor must have bravery, will, self-confidence, common sense and imagination. As a student in Mr. Peterson's class, I got a taste of what it's like to be an actor. The first exercise we did was superman. I found out that I needed to be brave enough and willing enough to boldly step into the circle. This exercise as well as a rose and a thorn takes immense courage and self confidence. Also the article also talks about having a body that's in good condition. An actor needs to be ready to do anything that is thrown his or her way. Even so we never know what it is that we will be asked to do. Therefore, the only thing we can do as actors is to keep our body in great shape so that it is prepared for anything. Before we left for the weekend, we learned how to analyze a script using the 4 P's. Pace, pitch, punch and projection. As the story states, an actor must have the ability to analyze the script correctly. As a result, their P's are essential to an actor's performance. During class we got to read scripts using these skills and I therefore saw how Analyzing a script correctly can convey a powerful meaning to the audience. The most essential part of an actor's job.

  42. The short article entitled "The Job of the Actor" conveys the necessary characteristics of an actor. One main point that, I personally appreciate from this article is when it brought out the point that actors don't have talent; they're only talent is will. me personally, I do not think I would be a natural actor; however, as this article brings out, it's not about talent, it's about the "will." I've learned that as long as I work hard at being a successful actor, I would be considered as an "actor." In addition, one topic the article exploited was the fact that when you work hard at acting, you will not worry about the bad of your performance. You know you worked your hardest, so you know nothing needs to be changed. I've learned from that, so I won't worry about how I could have changed something in my performance. This article really embodies the job and role if an actor. It helped me to see how to be a successful actor and what I need to change in my mindset in theatre in general. Using this article, I expect o be not just a good actor, but the best I can possibly be.

    Sincerely,

In the short article, "The Job of the Actor," the author decrides different skills in order to be an good actor or actress. One important skill that the author talked about is having a strong and clear voice. I think this skill is important because when acting you want to heard and understood. Using a strong and clear voice allows your stage partners and audience to hear you clearly. Another important skill the author described is haing a strong and supple body language. When acting, you would want your audience to uderstand the mood that you are trying to portray. For example, if you are trying to portray a sad mood, you would slouch. The author also described how you do not need talent to act. Personally, I do not have any major talents in acting. I work hard though. My ability to work shows that I can be a good actress when asked. Therefore, there are a variety of skills needed when acting. I look forward to using these skills in Theatre class this year.

    Sincerely,

  44. In the short story, The Job of the Actor" I learned that it takes one to be in the audience to become the actor that they want to be, In this, it has taught me many things. I taught me that I have to keep in mind that acting is more than emotion. Its about having common sense , knowing that you can do it, and apply your self to be the best. You want to know that you have a role to do and that role is in you , No matter if you're 35 playing a 60 year old, or 19 playing a 10 year old. B R A V E R Y. Thats the main thing that it is imortant that I think will help me be successful.Like J.D Salinger said," You were the reader before you were a writer." Basically saying that you have to watch before you do.

  45. In the article, “The Job of the Actor,” J.D Salinger mentioned, “You were a reader before you were a writer.” This is also similar to an actor. Actors had to be an audience before they understood what it takes to be an actor. I learned that an actor’s job is not only to make the audience have a moment of a ‘struck in the gut’ but they must also feel that struck. By them feeling the same way, they would be able to send the energy of to the audience and make them believe for a second that the scene is real. An actor must dedicate to do their work correctly; acting is not based on talent but work ethic. You cannot become an actor overnight; one must work hard to be able to become the character you must be on the scene. I learned that one must recognize their weaknesses and future responsibilities and keep the in mind so they’ll be able to separate them and improve on what they must. An actor cannot say how they will feel, they must show it and send that energy to the audience so they too will feel the emotions that the character is going through. An actor cannot say what they are going to do, they have to show it and express it to others. However, the actor must be brave enough to have the courage to express what the character is feeling.

  46. Taking away from J.D. Salinger's "The Job of the Actor", I've mainly reflected on the fact that acting requires a definite set of skills and tools in which if acquired well, these can be made habitual. This is very true because as an actor, every new role can't be something foreign to you. As time passes, you need to get more and more comfortable with what you're doing, and the tools that hopefully you acquire, should help you become used to the acting environment.

  47. From J.D Salinger's "The Job of the Actor",he mentions that , "You were a reader before you were a writer." This connects to being an actor because you need to be able to understand material before you can officially take the part on. I learned that to be an actor, one must make the audience feel what they are trying to act upon and also the actor must feel what they are saying. An actor must eloquently do their job sufficiently as possible that way it is lucid to everyone. You cannot become an actor instantaneously but rather through hard work and dedication. An actor must use show don;t tell in order to get their words across to the audience. An actor cannot flat out say what they are trying to say but rather show how they are going to do it. An actor must portray the attribute of courage and bravery in order to do anything.

from J.D. Salinger"s "The Job of the Actor" you can infer that there is an actual set of skill and attributes that one must have need to atain or refine their qualities in order to aspire to become an actor.
