ReplyDeleteBased on the theatre class warm-ups, I've realized that all of them require energy, enthusiasm, and being able to be comfortable doing goofy things around your classmates. For instance, in order to successfully do the Common Ground warm-up, you had to be able to be comfortable sharing information about yourself and caring whether or not people either agreed or disagreed with you. For this activity, I feel like I moved quickly, and I listened very carefully to what was being said. During this activity, I wasn't actually feeling very timid or shy about what I liked and how other people felt about it which is,like, a giant leap for me.On the other hand, during some class activities, I can't feel myself doing something goofy or actually acting out any scenes because I don't want to fail or look stupid. Another warm-up that made me feel very shy was the roses and thorns because I was just afraid of speaking and having evreybody's eyes on me, waiting for me to speak. This is something I really need to work on if I want to do better during next warm-ups. Hopefully, over the next few theatre classes, this will soon be routine for me, and I'll be able to feel comfortable acting around other people.

ReplyDeleteLast week in theater class, we studied the four movement qualities for actors. The four movements are sustained, vibratory, percussive, suspend/collapse. To walk sustained, one must move slowly, but to walk percussively one must move with quick, fast movements. To suspend/collapse one must hold themselves up and let go, while vibratory movements have many sharp quick movements. The four movements emphasize the actor's ability to express and convey their character to an audience. During class we had to independently walked around the classroom expressing how we walk. Then we were told to walk in a way our character we had made up would walk. I usually walk nonchalantly with a sustained/collapse movement. However I choose a character opposite from the way I walked and demonstrated my vibratory walk to the class. I embodied a character this way. Before class was over, Mr. Peterson told us to enter the classroom as yourself or as a character for the next theatre class. He wanted us to perform an entrance into the classroom the way an actor thinks about his character and goes on stage for the first time. On monday the class was told to embody a character or yourself in order to be aware of the movements you make. I choose to move as my self so as I made my appearance and entrance into the classroom with a sustained movement. I entered the room slowly at a steady pace and took my seat for class without any rush. Overall, I learned it is an actor's job to think about his or her movements in order to make the audience believe the character is real.

So Far theatre is fun and I’m noticing that I am coming out of my shell and taking the practice time more seriously. My favorite activity was the one that each person had to throw a squishy ball to a person without talking. Then after everyone got the ball, the last person would have to throw the ball in the order they received the ball. Well, our class as special as it is lost the ball! Somehow the ball managed to go out the WINDOW and our activity was over but it was a great and fun activity especially after the accident. My least favorite activity was the one called “rose and thorn.” I just found it very hard for me to really find what I was happy and upset for. If you know me then you know that I’m a very bright person and see the best in everything. Son coming up with a thorn was quite hard for me. Then after the activity I noticed that I am more of a secretive person meaning that I tend to keep problems to myself. As an actor or actress you need to be very open with your feeling in order for you to play your character in a realistic way. Just as Mr. Peterson said, “If you believe you are the character then the audience will believe that you are the character and will believe whatever id going on.”
I think that this class is all about learning about who you are, coming out of your shell and expressing yourself. Personally I am an outspoken, loud and energized person and I'm never really reserved, so its easy for me to be myself in theater. It's just a good thing to have a class where you don't have to be calm and you could just go out. The class warm-ups are always the most fun part of the class just because everyone in class interacts with one another and we all participate and have fun while doing it. The homework is always allowing me to refer to who i truly am, for example "The Tools of an Actor" short reading I learned that an actor always has the chance to change themselves to have a satisfactory performance and the performance that they want. The class activities are always fun as well because every day we always do something different. I like the class because it is always interesting and never dull. I have learned a lot so far during the school year, like what it is to be an actor, how to make an entrance and how to change a simple sentence to mean different things and have different connotations and impressions.

ReplyDeleteIn theatre class i learned about the four movement which are sustain , suspend/ collapse, percussive, and vibratory . I have characterized my self as being sustain because i walk slowly and laid back . I walk as someone with smooth curves. Im the total opposite of someone that is percussive such as my father who walk sharp and firm. hes also a heavy walker while im a person that walk with silence as if im tipy toeining . Overall, i have never judged or evaluate the way i walk until now. In theatre class we have done warmups where it recquires active listening and eye contact. It recquires you to think on you feet , or on other terms its your impulses. Which is something we pretty much use eveeryday . Today we did the bippity , bippity bop activity which was another activity recquiring you to think on your feet. Overall these activity recquires confidence and strong voice inorder for people to take you seriously . We have also learned about the entrance . Moment before, what are you doing now , and wat do you want to do. Something that comes natural to me is the scene what am i doing right now ? its just a natural thing for someone to do when your not acting or playing a specific role.

ReplyDeleteTheatre is an amazing and collaborative art. It helps to develop personalities and makes us become familiar with each other. You're coming out of you're comfort zone in theatre class. The warm ups in class are amazing. It allows for each class to get to know each other and act as a community. Theatre class activities are fun and interesting. Theatre allows me to be in another world. I'm able to actually enjoy myself in the class and be away from the real world for an hour.I am actually blessed to have the skills of acting and making people laugh. This is why theatre is an extremely important subject.Theatre is more than a subject. It is a way of life. Theatre helps me to express my emotions and show my creativity. I'll plan to have a great year
*.I plan to have a great year.
ReplyDeleteIn theatre class, I have learned the four different types of movements. The four different types of movements are sustain, percussive, suspend/collapse, and vibratory. I have found myself to be more of a sustain person. This is because I like to be calm and relax. I feel as though that I shouldn't be in a rush to my destination because it is not going anywhere. One of the war-ups that I enjoyed was BIBBITY-BIBBITY-BOP. This is because in this warm-up, you had to be an active listener, fast, and you need a strong voice. In order to continue in the game, you needed to listen to hear what was the correct action or saying that you needed to do. This relate to theatre class because you need to know your place in a scene. Also you need to have a strong voice so other people can hear what you are saying. In addition, another warm-up that I enjoyed was Roses&Thorns. In this activity, you had to think of something both positive and negative aspects in your life which was personal. This was beneficial to me because I was able to open myself up to a new group of people that I never had no type of interaction with. Overall you can say that theatre has been very beneficial to me so far!

For the past couple weeks in theatre class I have learned a lot that you can’t just learn from being an audience at a performance. There are many things that can be done in order to improve you as an true productive actor. One key take away that we learned is ways how people entrance a play and the things they are doing or thinking of before they enter to begin their performance. Before entering an actor is thinking of how they’re going to enter and their personal role they must play when they enter. The four ways to enter that we learned are vibratory, sustained, short and quick. Living our everyday life we don’t think of things like that but as an actor you have to be focused on these things in order to grasp the eye of the audience. We also learn how to become physically and mentally fit so that it can have a positive effect on how we perform. All these aspects are really beneficial to how we rehearse. we most recently learn the steps to take in order to pick a very difficult topic and make something very creative on it. The things we must pay close attention to are listening, count, and observation. We must think of something difficult then add meaning to it. These are also helpful in our daily warm ups and the things that we do in our everyday life. Theatre is continuing g strengthens me in many ways and I take away these ideas and I am able to apply it to my own life.

ReplyDeleteFrom the past weeks of taking theatre class, i believe it went surprisingly well. The warm-up activities we did were fun and allowed us to get loose. My top 3 warm-ups would have to be Zip-Zap-Zop, Steal The Spotlight, and What Are You Doing. They allow us to get creative and express ourselves however we want to. The main class lessons are pretty good as well. They teach us on how to become better actors/actresses and reflect on our own characteristics. When we compare ourselves to characters we play, it opens a whole new view on how we view each other and ourselves. For example, one can learn the importance of confidence. By constantly performing in front of each other it helps you get rid of stage fright. Then when you have to do a presentation in class you wouldn’t be nervous due to learning confidence in theatre class. Also in theatre class, I like how our team is able to come together and get more familiar with one another. It shows that were more than just a team. We're a family. The overall thing I like the most about theatre is that it’s the only class besides gym where we can be goofy and not serious. It gives us the opportunity to have a break from the hard work we do all day. In the future I would like to see us have more time to act and perform. It makes the class more interesting and fun.

Today In Threatre class we came in a got to the DoNow. it wasn't completely successful because when students came in it was talking and everyone didn't immediately get to the DoNow. This caused for our time that we get into neutral position slowly . the transition has to be done over because people were still writing and talking. In order to have done this successfully we could of came straight in and went to our DoNow with no taking in between this would of allowed for us to all finish and be ready to get into position when the timer sounded. Today we also did a warm up called Bibbity Bibbity Bop. During this warm up we go our energy level up for the rest of class. It was not just fun but allowed for us to use our theatre skills that we have been using . With the skills of urgency and memorization we are able to practice for when we have to actually have to go on stage and preform a scene.
Today in class, the exercise “Bibbity-Bibbity-Bop” was to successfully accomplish the skills actively listening, to have urgency and energy, and to master a strong voice. The exercise was basically to respond quickly with a word or action to the phrase bibbity-bibbity-bop before the phrase was finished. This was honestly my favorite exercise from this whole week. These skills are important to master for our everyday life actions. For example, actively listening is required for me in school. I must learn how to master this skill so in school I would be able to listen to instructions and follow the directions to a task. Or even in a college lecture, actively listening is important so I can be able to capture information and write them down easily. Next, urgency and energy is important for school too. Having energy in school is important because the more energetic I am, the more excited I would feel to learn something new in school every day. Urgency is important in high school especially because the hallways are crowded like the typical Black Fridays. These hallways are so crowded; therefore I must have urgency to walk by my peers to get to my next class on time. Every class is important and therefore I must be on time to learn everything that there is to learn for the day. Finally, strong voice is important to have in my life in order to show strength in character and so everyone else around me would be able to hear me. One of my favorite quotes says, “Listen to others but don’t lose your own voice.” This quote reminds me of this skill because it’s telling me that having a strong voice will allow you to get noticed. Also there have been many times when one has many important things to say and others may not be able to hear you because your lack of strong voice. Moving on, these skills relate to theater class due to when actor is performing they must actively listen to the other character that their performing with. This would be able to allow the actor to have a stronger emotion and face expressions as a response to the character’s words. Having energy is also important since actors must look and feel ready to go to work every day. Lack of energy may lead to a bad performance to be presented. Strong voice is one particular skill that’s very important in the acting world. You want to be able for your audience to hear you in every corner of the theatre. With these exercises I’ve been able to reflect more on my daily life and to identify the improvements I need to take. I look forward to our future exercises in theatre class.

I personally enjoy theater class. Over the pass few classes I have become really comfortable with myself. I look forward to the warm-ups the most because they are always fun and they serve a purpose at the same time .I realized that I really like the concept of improvisation . Every time we have to act out something or become some type of character I rely on improvising because I have become so good at it after being introduced to it , again , a few lessons ago . Secondly , theater has helped me to realize that you can't do everything on your own . I really am starting to appreciate at working with my partner because it's fun. I'm able to bounce off of her. I can either meet her energy level or exceed it. Either way , it takes two to get the job done right in theater sometimes. Theater class has helped me realize that I AM a bit of a character . I am naturally active because that's who I am . So , I have no problem sharing out in class. Theater serves as a class that I am the most comfortable in. I appreciate having an outlet where , I can express myself . I thought theater would just be all work and no fun , but the work we've been doing in theater has been fun . My favorite is subtext and relationship communication. You got to play with the words and have fun with it . Theater class helps you to find the real you and I truly appreciate that .

These past few weeks in theatre class have been awesome! I’ve learned so much about how theatre class actually affects our daily life. Some things that connect directly to theatre and my daily life are energy, confidence, purposeful movements, taking risks and creativity. Energy related to theatre because energy in life is what makes life go on. If we went through life sad and lonely how would we make it? Energy is what pushes me and makes me do things such as homework and go to work even when I don’t want to. Confidence relates to life because that is how people will take you seriously. One will not be paid attention if they do not speak with a loud voice and purpose in their tone. Purposeful movements are important for life because we all use gestures. Gestures get our message over a long with our words, but can be unnecessary. This applies to in life and theatre also. Taking risks is also important for life because how will one learn what they are good at. Taking risks is so encourages because everyone should try new things; this applies to the norm and out of the norms. Creativity relates to life because ones imaginary should always be open and willing to expand. My favorite activities in class have been the pair sharing acting exercises.
I think that theatre is a class that gives you a chance to be yourself and for those who are shy, come out their shells. Some people that take theatre class feel like it’s a waste of time. In reality, as you do warm ups and reflect on the skills you needed to complete the task, you realize more how those skills relate to your life and you realize who you are as a person. In theatre class so far my favorite warm up was Roses and Thorns. At first I didn’t take it that serious but as I heard what people were saying and I thought more about what I was going to say it gave me a chance to reflect about the good and bad things going on in my life. This warm up also gave me chance to be more open and trust people. I’m not the type person who likes to talk to people about my problems and theatre class gives me a chance to be open. Theatre class is an environment where you have to trust and depend on others to do things. In life things aren’t just about you. When you’re working at a job or in school, you have to put your trust in others and yourself. Theatre class is something I’m grateful for because as time goes on I come more and more out of my shell. I’m not the type of people who likes talking in front of a group of people or act or do anything, but as time goes on I become more comfortable with myself and taking risks. I know that as I continue to take theatre class I will grow as a person and figure more about who I am.

I have learned an immense amount in theater class over these past weeks. I believe the most important lesson I learned in theater class thus far is that we need to be imaginative when we perform. I learned this lesson through the pantomimes we had to do. We looked at a simple everyday object and had to use our imaginations to transform this simple object into something new. This is a vital aspect of theater because people have to use their imagination to change their character. An actor has to be able to imagine how their character moves, talks, stands, and behaves. Even if one’s creativity has failed to connect to an audience, it is still important to use it. Paul Newman once stated, “To be an actor you have to be a child.” He is stating that an actor must have a flourishing imagination, like a child. This connects to the first warm-up we did this year. In this warm-up, we had to state why we are a superhero. This warm-up allowed us to tap into our imaginations to see why we would be superheroes. The most important lesson of theater is to have a strong imagination.
In theatre class, I have learned about the four movements. They are suspend collapse, sustain, percussive and vibratory. This lesson has caused me to observe my surroundings and scenery. I myself move in a vibratory way. I did not realize this before. This has told me a lot about myself. I have become more aware of my movements. I have noticed that the way people move, shows alot about their personality. I have also learned about the way people enter. An entrance shows the mood and tone of the action. I have become more aware of everything. I now see the world in a different perspective. I do not think I would have ever seen the world as clear as I do now. When I began attending theatre class I just passed by life. I never thought of examining and scrutinizing the world as I do now. I now see the connections between theatre and my own life. Without the theatre techniques, I would not have some of the friends that I have now. I now know that you have to put your own personality into theatre. I have began to actually become present in class instead of just sitting there. I am,excited to actually act. I have never done it before but I have always wanted to. I think our lessons have been great and will get better. The lessons have pushed me to think more about life and how I appear to others. I am glad that this has occurred because I have never been able to read people the way I can now. I never payed attention to the little things but have always focused on the big things. I now know that the little things matter as well.
ReplyDeleteI have learned a great deal since the beginning of theatre class. Between the class warm ups to the indivudual activities, I have experienced life as an actor. Even though we get off task amd don't fully complete an activity to the best of our ability, we are slowly learning. I have learned to have patience and to be able to step out of my comfort zine in order to do an activity. This makes me more appealing to those around me and allows me to know all that I need to do. Being an actor takes more time and in order to be ready to be a great one I need to be able to get over my fears. Being an actor takes confidence with a strong voice which this class has been teaching me to express. I need to be more expressive with my gestures and actions. Basically, theater has taught me a lot about myself that I need to work on.

In theater class, we start every day the same. We have the usual do now and a warm up that gets the class going in the right direction. I especially like the warmups in class because as you know I have changed classes and they help me learn more about my new classmates. This was especially shown in the "name and gesture" warmup. I got to see how certain peers of mine feel. I also like that the warmups are active because it usually wakes me up especially the one that we did today, "bibbity-bibbity-bop." This one class kind of gets my juices flowing when I feel tired and don't really know how it is that I will get through the rest of the day. So, this year's theater lesson has been great for me with the help that it continually gives to me.
The past few weeks in theatre class have been exciting. I really enjoy doing the warm up activities because they give us a chance to get loose and really have fun in school. Some of the activities that i enjoyed are What Are You Doing, Zip-Zap-Zop, and Bibbity-bibbity Bop. Being in theatre class gave me a chance to really change my view on a lot of things. For instance, i use to believe that acting was something that came natural to certain people, but now i realize that anyone can act. All you have to do is use a specific set of skills to make you look good. Some of these skills include a strong voice, eye contact, gestures, creativity, cooperation, and urgency. Also, the different acting roles that we get to do with our partners is a fun experience because we get to actually act in front of the class and show off all of the skills that we have learned so far. Acting is really a fun thing to do and can have a lot of positive results. Taking theatre class this year will be a great experience for me and will teach me a lot of new skills that might me important later on in life.

Its evident that Nkiru is a vey intelligent and energetic team. However, we sometimes get out of hand becuase we are haviing so much fun. We do it without knowing. What im trying to say is that sometimes we are immature, and not 100% of the time reaspectful, but we do not do it purposefully. Over the past two weeks in theater we have grown however. We have students doing homework all the time, students participating, and eager to share answers in class. We also have been able to sucessfully get through warm ups and learning the purpose behind it. For example, in theatre class today we did, "bippity-bippity-bop". This was an exercise that was enjoyable and educational at the same time. It allowed us to grasp the concept of thinking quick on your feet and being able to control yourself. It also taught us how to pay close attention to the movemet of others, and these all connect to theatre. All of our warmups are essential to our class lessons because they tie in together. Furthermore this connects to the "
individual scenes" done in class today. We had too pick a topic and think on our feet and show urgency, which were both two of the main themes in bippity-bippity-bop. So all in all theatre has been great so far.
In theatre class, I have become very comfortable. I have learned that you have to be able to express yourself in multiple ways. For example, we learned about multiple types of movements. The movements are sustain, suspend/collapse, percussive and vibratory. I've learned how to describe the way that I walk. The idea of movement helped us come together with different types of entrances. We were able to create our own entrances which will allow us to develop the way we walk. I’ve also learned about the moment before, what are you doing right now, and what you want to do. We learned to figure out the things that come easy to us, and the thing that comes easy is my imagination. We do many different warm ups in order to enhance our tools as an actor. Some warm ups we do are bippty bippty bop that helps to improve our active listening skills. We also did an activity where you have to state your name and do a certain type of movement with it. This activity helped to build active listening skills and helped us work on impulse. We develop these tools in ways that would enhance our everyday lives. I learned that theater can help with many different things that happen. Theater helps me to build up my confidence something that I have little of. I am more confident in theater then I ever been. Theater has allowed me to open up my imagination, and allowed it to become something large. Theater helps me to work on my impulse and think on my feet.
ReplyDeleteWithin theatre class over this week, I myself have been able to learn new ways and methods to channel my inner being. Being able to dig deep and find my inner being had been through the warm- ups, class activities, and the homework basically summing up everything that was taught in class. For example, the theatre warm- up that Agape did today called "What are you doing?". After the activity had been completed, as a class we had time to reflect upon the skills that we needed to successfully carry out the activity. One skill that was needed during this activity had been creativity; this seemed vital because this where is your imagination had to come into play. Thinking of an action that nobody else would ever think of, seemed more of a challenge, but once you let your mind and imagination explore it seemed as though it wasn't a problem. Another skill that had been equally imperative as creativity, is also being able to take risk when it comes to acting. Taking risk happen daily, for example in plays, there are females who actually try out for female roles and some roles where you have to play characters that are totally opposite of who you actually are, which brings me to my point of being cooperative. Being cooperative means being able to handle the characters standards and what they are in control of and what they aren't able to control. The skills that were reflected upon after the activity seemed most important mainly because it helps you move into your character, understanding them more clearly and better.
ReplyDeleteThis week in theatre we have been learning how to become great actors. For instance we learned the the three essential steps for an entrance in theatre. The first one was "What did I just do?" The second one was "What am I doing right now?" The third one is "What is the first thing you want?" In order to complete these techniques you have to use your body and gesture. For instance you may have to be happy and excited for a scene or sad and depressed. By asking yourself these questions, it will allow you to position yourself in the state that you must be in for that particular part. We also learned the four quality movements. They are Sustained, Percussive, Suspended/Collapse and Vibratory. These four qualities tell you the pace in which you need to be moving in your scene. Maybe you have to be moving extra fast or extra slow. As I reflect on my past week activities I have seen that I haven't really been getting into character when ever I perform scene's. To improve that I need to use my imagination more and all the other techniques that I have learned.

ReplyDeleteSo far in Theater Class 2012 we, as a class, have improved as actors. In Nkiru we have learned how to interact with each other and be respectful. However, in our warm-ups, we need to grow. We are sometimes too loud or energetic. If we were to use that energy and transfer it into positive energy for our team, we would reach perfection. Also, maturity is still a major issue. So far in theater class I have learned that anybody can be an actor. Anybody who puts in the effort, does their homework, and tries their best in class. Theater or acting does not need to be a natural talent for you. You need to build and hone the skill just like a muscle. Also, we have learned lots of basics in acting. For example, we had the lesson on movement. Whenever I watched a movie or a play, I never put into account the way an actor moves. I was always too busy focusing on the script itself. Now that I have learned that there are different ways to move, every time I watch a movie or a play, I think I will be able to determine what the actor is doing or how he feels by the way he or she walks and struts. Finally, I have learned how to turn an innate non-living object into something that is a necessity in a play. It is all about imagination and creativity. Theater class has improved my creativity a lot and I am looking forward to learning more.
ReplyDeleteThis year, everything has been great so far in Theater. The activities are always exciting, and they wake me up when I'm about to pass out from lack of slumber. Some of the more memorable activities was the activity with the ball. Most of the reason was because the ball ended up flying out of the window. Another activity was interesting was the name/gesture activity. It helped spark creativity because there were many gestures that we could made. I didn't make the best one because I guess my mind was a little cloudy, but I came up with one. It wasn't much though. Another activity was the bibbity-bibbity-bop activity. It inspired quick thinking and reflexes, because we couldn't really be slow when the words were said. We also had to focus, because any one of us could have been called on at any time. An activity outside of the Theater warmup was the entrance activity. It was fun, because I had never really thought of entrances as important, or I just never really thought about it. Yet, I was able to do an interesting entrance anyway. We also had to follow the three steps of having a successful entrance. They were, "What did I just do?", "What am I doing right now?", and ,"What is the first thing you want?" This activity helped me think a lot more about the way I enter the stage, because I'm not really myself anymore. I am now the character, and I have to portray the character in the best way possible. Overall, so far, I am learning to become a better actor as time goes by.

ReplyDeleteOver the past three weeks, theater has continued to surprise me. I was amazed that actions as simple as entrances can show how someone is feeling. In theater class we get insight into how to incorporate our emotions and characteristics into whatever character that we portray. Even the way you walk can show how your emotions are so you have to incorporate emotions to do that properly. Theater class is giving me an appreciation for the arts.I have noticed that acting and theater is not a one person thing. At times we need to use the actor's tool box to use the tools necessary to complete any task. I was also surprised that I can use my actor's tool boy for more than acting. I find myself using acting tools in all my classes and activities. I still struggle with displaying emotions and my confidence level. I need to work on my resilience and ability to take comments. For the next weeks of theater I need to be about to think about all my actions and use my emotions and knowledge of my self to complete the action.

ReplyDeleteIn theatre class we are constantly trying to teach ourselves new skills and connect those skills back to our everyday and theatre class times. We learn things that teach us about voice and bravery that are useful to our time in theatre. We will constantly need to use these skills if we ever want to perform on stage. Whenever we want to do things in life like apply to jobs the skills we learn in theatre will be useful. Theatre class has taught me several reasons why everything we do is useful in and outside of school. Lessons like bibbidty bobboity boo and our pantomines teaches skills we will always be able to use.

ReplyDeleteIn the begining this class was something that i dreaded. I thought there was going to be to much talking and listening and not enough applying the acctual work. However I have enjoyed this class the most. Theater is the place where you can be your self no matter how up tight or layed back you are. This is the place to embrace all the atrabutes that come with your character. Also in theater class you are able to learn different skills that apply to you everyday life, thats the best part. Most classes you learn things that only pertain to that class, however with theater you can apply the skills you learn both inside and outside the class room. I look forward to advancing my skills both as an actor and as a person.

ReplyDeleteOver the course of this week in theater class I learned alot about myself. I learned that my walk says alot about the type of person I am. I try to express myself within each assignment that I participate in. It is important for me during each assignment to use my improvisation skills I'm great when it comes to thinking on my feet and I truly express that in class. One thing that I really enjoy doing was the independent activity when we had to enter a room. I really enjoyed this activity because I never really knew how imperative the entrance you make was. Before I enter a room I try to observe everything around me and also try to listen for any sounds that may come from the room. Being attentive is very important especially when your on a stage performing in front of a large group of people. An actor must always demonstrate important skills and when they learn these skills they will be successful. After this week I think I have the skills it take to be a successful actor and I hope to one day pursue an acting career. But the only thing that's going to get me there is if I keep practicing the skills that we are taught in theater class.
During the last few classes I've found something that really connects to my everyday life. Those are, "What did I just do? What am I doing right now? What is the first thing I want?" I really believe that these three questions can help me stay on track for the rest of the year. It is very interesting to note that no matter how many people go through one door, each individual comes in differently. Whatever happened in there moment before, will affect their moment after. But the real message I received out of this is that you can't let your negative moment before hinder your achievement from success. Also, when we were counting the lights Mr. Peterson asked "are you counting the lights as yourself or are you acting a role." those words made me realize that every thing i do I have to do it as a purpose meaning that i have to give 100% which is only my absolute best.

ReplyDeleteSo far in theatre, I have learned a lot. I learned that acting isn't something one can be a master of overnight. It takes, like everything else, years and years of practice to perfect things like voice. You have to constantly work on both your strengths and your weaknesses in order to ensure that you can be the best actor possible. Also, acting Isn't believable unless you can imagine your scene actually happening in real life. If you try to act a scene that you think is completely outrageous and fake, then it will look outrageous and fake. You have to be able to think of yourself in that situation doing everything the character is doing. Then your acting can be believable to the audience. Theatre class has also taught me that acting requires a lot of planning and precise movements. Aspects like whether you are sustained, vibratory, or percussive really make a difference in how your character is portrayed. If one thing is off then the whole character looks odd. Also, before entering a scene, you must ask yourself "what did I just do?", "what am I doing?", and "what is the first thing I want?"
As i reflect on myself in theatre class so far, there is alot that can be said. let me just start by saying so far theatre has been comfortable for me. i say this because all the acting and such falls a little bit natural to me. when it comes to class participation, i do engage myself in every class. if i had to improve one thing it would be my effort. i say i give about 80% for performances. my favorite class activity was when we had to throw around the bean bag. this was both fun and funny because i ended up throwing it out the window. i have learned alot in theatre as of now. one thing that always sticks with me is that as an actor i will always need focus and confidence inorder to perform. whithout these, i wont be into full character. it is needed to be able to eliminate all outside distractions to display a real message. my focus has to always be bettering myself because then my acting will improve. in theatre working with a partner is always going to be apart of my life. i think that by myself my ideas are good but not as widespread as they can be with a partner. hearing someones thoughts allow me to change mine and enhance them beacuse now i build off what my partner has sed. working with someone is what helps you grow as a performer because life isnt just about you, but your experiences. theatre is what models that motto. the skills that we discuss in theatre can also be usded in real life. courage is essential to both acting and reality because without it, you're voiceless. without that voice, people dont notice you. your life is in the shadow of others. in the future i want to become fully connected to my more dramatic side.
ReplyDeleteIn theatre class, I've learned how to sustain myself and give off a certain emotion that you want the audience to see. by doing this, the audience is able to cooperate and you are able to add your own personal attributes to help you become a better actor. In the group activities, I've learned that you are able to work on your feet and think off the top of your head. One aspect of theatre that we've learned recently was to sustain ourselves. In this aspect, we are able to analyze our characters and choose how we want to act them out. By doing this, you are able to help the audience get involved because they become more interested in you as an actor. I've enjoyed these activities because you are able to interact with your peers and add your own personal emotion according to the scene and type of person you are. I know that I will be able to have the correct emotion and have the audience interested.

ReplyDeleteI am beginning to like the Class This Year, Especially with the Class Activities We Have in the Class, For example, in theatre class today we did, "bippity-bippity-bop". This exercise was enjoyable and educational at the same time. It allowed us Think quick on your feet and being able to control yourself. It also taught us how to pay close attention to the movement of others, and these all connect to theater. In addition, it taught us to have energy and to follow directions quickly. Also in theater class you are able to learn different skills that apply to you everyday life, that is the best part. Most classes you learn things that only pertain to that class, however with theater you can apply the skills you learn both inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to advancing my skills both as an actor and as a person. Theater class Can Teach Me the True Meaning of How to Be an Actor and What It Takes to Become One. The Fun Part Is That I Can Express Myself More In The Class As A Whole. Over he Past Rest Of The Weeks I Can Find Myself Doing More Things And Expressing Myself More As A Whole. In addition, I Am Looking forward For the Rest of the Year in This Class, Also I like Other Class Activities Like, "What Are You Doing". This Really Has Me Energized And Makes Me Express Myself Even More. I Hope All The Class Warm Ups Can Be The Same As This One Because I Truly Beginning To Like This Class.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've found myself really focused in Theatre class because I'm interested in the arts and I'm interested in learning more about the components of Theatre. However, sometimes I get frustrated because my classmates don't make it easy for me to engage in a lesson nor do they help push the class discussions foward. So this distracts me from getting the full day's intending lesson. Besides that, I think it is very interesting how Theatre relates to so many aspects of my social and academic life. As been once said, Theatre is the foundation of all collaborative art. Every day, I interact with new people and new ideas. Every new day's lesson helps me get through each day because these lessons help me cooperate and cope with new situations and circumstances.
ReplyDeleteMy theatre classes have been fun and educational at the same time. I have lerned a lot especially things I didn't know before. Also, I had no reaction when I received the news that i was switched from Agape to Nkiru. I was ahead in some of the notes because my old class did it already; therefore, i participated even more and tried to be the leader in this lesson. In addition to this lesson, I had two more likeable classes, that stopd out to me. One is when we did the Frozen Girl poem. It was interesting how there can be so many possibilities for why a girl has an emergency phone call in a phone booth. The other class that I really enjoyed was today when we played Bippity Bippity Bop. It was fun because it raised a challenge, it allowed us to work together, and we cheered each other on. This warm-up was fun and unexpecting. Therefore, you were write about this game being most popular. Overall, i had a great month and great week of theatre class.

ReplyDeleteReflecting on Theatre class so far, i can infer that this year will be challenging due to the lack of bravery and confidence i have in acting. The class activities we perform are meant to advance our knowledge of the art of acting. I now know the four essential P's of performing: pace, pitch, punch, and projection. These are needed for a successful scene or play. An actor also must have energy and movement, and I know this from Zip Zap Zop. You have to think on your feet and be aware of things at all times when acting. This is what i have reflected so far.
An actor has to step out of their comfort zones and perform as asked to so that the scene comes off as real. I love how Mr. Petterson brings all of his energy out everyday and shows the class how to become the "character." This year's theatre class is going to bring out the actor in me.
DeleteIN theatre class right now, i can see that it will probably be challenging for me, as an individual. I've realized that i dont really participate because I'm afraid of steppiong out of my comfort zone. However, thats the main thing that you do wiht theatre. you step out of your comfort zone and step into a different person/ character's shoes. its about taking a simple scene and making it into something that you never even imagined. improvising. Also, with seeing my first progress report, I REALLY need to take Theatre more seriously than I do and show myself that it will benefit me in the future when i need to do and interview or when im really put on the spot when at work. Therefore, I know that I'm really going to need help when it comes to understanding and stepping out of my comfort zones.
ReplyDeleteMaymouna Sissoko in theatre class right i see it as a little difficult because i suddenly get stage fright i can memorize lines easily and know how to use all the space on a stage as both an indvidual or even as a group in fact i choreographed most of the recitation of the poem we performed in class overall i love theatre II but i have to get over my fear of pulic speaking

ReplyDeleteIn theatre class this year i have learned a lot about myself ,but most importantly i have learned how to grow comfortable around my peers while in class. I have also comme to realize that theatre isn't all about acting and dramea it is also aboout being able to ananlysis play writes/scripts and the character in the play especially their G.O.T.E.'s. This quarter I plan to do better than the first one because before i didn't take theatre as seriouslu as i shouls have which caused me to fail, however, i was able to reflect so I can do better than before. A famous quote i lyk to keep in mind is that:"Without no struggle their is no progress" by Frederick Douglass, and i like to keep this in mind because it tells me over and over again that my failures with only later lead to my success in something elsse later on in life.
