Well to start off my scene project was called the trap. Considering the fact that i was directing this scene I had to think of several elements into the making of the back story as well as the visual itself of the scene. The act is called trapped so I had to orginize the stage as such. The visual of the scene is one of the most important elements to the audience so they get the idea of what is going to happen. I also had to work on the emotional connectivity to the characters. The actor connecting to the character is essential to understanding the scene in general. The characters emotion or G.O.T.E conveys the power in their lines. In this case the thing that was missing in my scene was that the characters were not in tune with their lines or not necessarily off-book, some parts were memorized but a little more emotion could have been used because the scene became a little insipid. It would have been alot better if the characters were a lot more intune with themselves and the audience. Observing professionals and being in one of the plays this year myself, it is key to make that connection in order to make the audience see and feel whats actually in the play. The scene project itself was a great learning experieance as well as a chance to get together with new people.
ReplyDeleteNow that my scene is done, if there was one thing I could do over it would be to bring more props. I beleive if I had brought in a blaket, cds, and a candle the scene would have felt way more realistic. But I am pleased with my line memorization, overall I knew all my lines. In the scene there were supposed to be some pauses between Wallace's words, but I dont know if that came across to the audience like I didnt know the lines. I believe that both my scene partner and i had a pretty good understanding of our chaacters and our motives in this scene. I just wish that my group and i would had spend more time practicing so that our seen would have been even more excellent, but overall I dont believe we did half bad.
ReplyDeleteNow that the production project is over, I would have changed our group dynamic. Because a lot of the project was spent working away from school, my group and I created our own individual schedules to memorize our lines. We didn't work on getting to know one another's characters. That hindered our dynamic on stage when we performed our monologue.
ReplyDeleteNow that the production is over but I believe that I could have had more rehearsals to work on the blocking and to keep up with my actors on memorizing their script specefically their Southern accents. Also i could have been more elaborate on the props and work on Jakai's costume and for Jasmine to move around more on the stage. Also I wish that my vision for this scene would have come true
ReplyDeleteNow that the production has finished I have alot to reflect or to tell about. The experience was like no other. I got to work with others and get to know them but in a way their personalities were already the charaters themselves. I can adapt really easy but because of outside issues i wasnt able to synch correctly with the character which is no excuse. I do however appreciate the help I recieved during the scene when i had stumbled on one of my lines which had made the scene flow better. The adversities we had were challe nging with some of our members not being present at rehersals but in the end the final product had in turn came to be one that stood out I believe. This required me to take everything I had learned and put it into a single persona which was a really good test. I know now what i need to work on which os emotion of course. The emotional connectivity wasnt at its hight during the scene so it is definiteky something that I will fix for future reference. I think if I was a lot more creative then what i was then it would have been much better than what it is. It always pays to get creative its what gets the people going.
ReplyDeleteWell now since that's over with, I'm going to focus alot on my other subjects, the ones I'm srruggling with. I have to get myself focused and determined to do better because if not, I'll be way behind and I don't want that. I'm going to put my all into getting my grades back on track. That's my goal for the rest of the year, and to do good on my IAs.

ReplyDeleteNow, that the directing scene project is over, there's a few things that I wish I'd done differently. First, I wish that I directed a bit more considering I was the director. Also, I wish that I worked on the director's binder earlier and kept up with the assignments that were due. By not doing them when I was supposed to, I failed to keep up, and as a result, some of the assignments that I needed to do are missing from the binder. Despite all of this, the experience was nice. It was great working with my peers because it gave me a chance to know them and what they were like. Also, my actors were also great off-book, and did well on using the space for the scene.

Now that the production is over, i thin i should have been more productive when it came to bring in the proper materials needed in order to create that casual setting that i envisioned for the performance. I think i also would have really took the time out and really get a grasp of what the play was about and maybe even play the role of Gayle just to see what it was like to be her for a while and experience what she went through. However, overall, i think that managing time and being very serious about things really were the things i would have done differently because if it probably werent for those two things, then the play performed probably would have been a major success.
My scene was Cheating. This scene made me Look at theatre from a whole new perspective. I got to play the director. At first I was thinking that I did not have to do anything and the actors had to do all the work. Eventually I realized that was not the truths. As the director, I had to organize my whole scene to what I wanted it to be and I was in control of it failing miserably or it having great success. So, I had to come up with costumes and how my set was going tobe in the end. All in all, it was a ggreat experience and it made me appreciate the arts more.
ReplyDeleteLooking back at my scene , I knew all my lines . But , I feel as though my group could have practiced more. My partner didn't get all her lines right therefore I had to change my lines. I was quite nervous and I felt as though I didn't know my character well enough . Secondly, more props could have been used. Our scenery was just a room with chairs and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteThis directing project was intense! I think everyone in my group had some regrets but we did end up doing an amazing job in my opinon. In the scene we did forget some minor lines which created some confusion for the audience. One thing I want to change is the director. Although she was a major part, she did lack in some parts as so did I. As for the performance, Lucy and I tried our best to put on the best performance possible. One thing I would have liked is being off book at an earlier date which would have made the performance a little better. Also the sound didn't play correctly so not relying on youtybe would have been better. All together, we put on a successful performance and I would love to do it over again after I relearn my lines of course.
ReplyDeleteThe directing project was a struggle for both my group mates and I. For me personally, I wish i could have done a little better when it came to memorizing my lines because i enjoyed my scene so much I think it didnt come through in the scene. I think my group could of had a little bit more rehearsals in order to have the scene down packed.I think it was a great learning experience for myself especially because i realized that im not that good with time management and that is something i have to work on.But overall i had fun and i would do it all over again just a little more prepared.
ReplyDeleteI would have done several things differently now looking back at the theatre performance. One thing that I would have done differently would've been to bring a costume for the performance because I did'nt bring one and that impacted my grade soley. A costume is a really easy thing to bring to raise your grade and I did'nt do that. It would also have been better if Jasmine and I incorporated more blocking into our scene because, for the most part, we were both sitting down in chairs. We were naive about the fact that our scene was on a porch; we could have set it up to be more vivacious. Additionally, since our scene took place in Texas during the year of 1915, Jasmine and I could have added accents or at least tried to. There were a numerous amount of aspects that could have been changed about my theatre performance. Lastly, i believe thaty group should have had several more rehersals because we only got really serious about the project like two days before the performance. It would have been nice if the director set up more rehersals or made everyone call eachother for a practice. My next project will be much better prepared.
ReplyDeleteI believe that being a director was a very difficult process. It was hard trying to balance the actors and I's different schedules. It was as if we never had time for eachother. We got our hour practices in at weird times. It was a challenging process attempting to combine all of theh different opinions into one production. If I had the chance, I do not think that I would become a director again because it was too much facilitating involved. Another thing is that I do not think that my group and I took this project as seriously as we needed to. We often pocrastinated with what we had to do. A bright side to being a director is seeing the overall outcome. I think that the different groups did well putting these scenes together. We had to make the costumes and actions of the characters fit in to the time period as well as the setting they were in.
ReplyDeleteI believe that being an actor was type difficult in many ways. It was type hard to come into character, to embody the emotions of the character Wallace. Another challenge was trying to memorize the lines and to use techniques to have a perfect performance. If i had the chance to be an actor, i will not take the job because its something that is hard for me to accomplish and i think i am terrible for the job. Sometimes practices wasn't serious and i think effected us heavy. Between my acting partner Juliet and I, i think we did good and at a point we had to improvise a little. But overall, i had fun doing the performance and the whole thing.

ReplyDeleteNow that my production is over as a director I am open to many more things in theatre. It is more than what I thought and there is many ways in which you and your crew can enjoy it. One of my biggest problems was time management. If we wouldve managed our time this couldve been an easy ace for us. Another thing that would have prepared us for a better preperation was if we had more practice time outside of class. With practice comes perfection, not to say our performance wasnt good but it wascapable of being much better. Also staying on top of due dates would have make things better. I believe that you mr. Perterson as a teacher should remind us of these dates because with such a large schedule things are easy to forget. If we had a chance to redo the project i will just focus on my time management. Other then this the directing and performans was a good way to open my mind to the things of theatre.

Now that my production is over as a director i am open to many more things in theater. there are many ways to take the theater experience and make it into something that can be learned from. there are alot of things that go into being a good producer in creating a production for theater class.what could have made my production better is time management and making sure to get in the necessary time to practice so that we can get the practice that is needed.as the teacher i think that you should remind us of these important dates.
Khadijah, courage: Now that the project is over, i would fix the group's work ethic and time management. When we had reherasals in class, we didn't take advantage of our time and get enough work done. Also, we didn't make any reherasals to work on our characters. overall, my group did not take this project seriously because it was in theatre class. If i could redo my project, i would focus more on each part of the director's book.

As the character Billy Bob in the play Lu Ann, I realized that I needed to improve my time management because it was very bad during this performance. We had all Christmas break and I never touched and now i see the importance of it. To add, I see my techniques were very okay because I still studied the script, but when it was time to go over the script or perform i was tense and could not remember my lines at all. However, overall I just want to improve because if I, then I see my growth and further strengths and weaknesses. My thorn is memorizing lines because I do not do it well and it causes me to do badly. This was a success because i see my weaknesses and I will build off of them and do better.
Now that the project is over, I would have picked a different scene to direct. This is because the scene my group had picked was not that interesting. We had no props due to the characters in the scene not having anything with them, the connection between the characters was not met by the actors, and it was difficult to find the right music. In the future I will choose a scene where theres action and the lines are more easy to remember. As a director, I wouldnt want my actors to stress about long paragraphs that they will have to remember. A scene should be fun. Also I want to focus on letting my actors know how to show certain emotions. This will not only help them get into characters but help the audience know what emotions they are feeling.
ReplyDeleteI was director of the scene Taking a Joke with Nancy and Chris. I just wish that I had taken more control as a director. I should have made sure that we practiced outside of theater class. I also should have been on top of what had to be turned in. The characters presented on Tuesday were not all that developed. I didn't make sure that my group memorized their lines. I should have collaborated with them in order to get my vision across. I actually had a vision for the scene but my actors were a bit disinterested. They wanted to do whatever they wanted. Even so, it was my job to organize the plot setting so that it was interesting and dramatic.
ReplyDeleteNow that my scene is over, i would prepare differently. Being that I was the director and didn't have to know the lines, I took it a an opportunity to slack off. I also didn't do the work required with the project. I only did the mood box and the contracts. I know this has caused my grade to go down. I also didn't put my best into making sure my actors knew their lines. I just made sure that they knew the majority of them. Along with making sure my actors lines, i should have made sure they got the proper emotions to go along with them. I would have also picked another scene because it was difficult trying to direct a scene with little emotion. Also, i didn't really like my scene. It didn't speak to me I think the way that it should have.
ReplyDeleteNow that my scene is over I have realized a bunch of things that I would do differently. One thing i would do differently is take advantage of the class time we had to work on the projects with our groups. I think that my group in particular had troubles staying on task and focusing on our lines and the work that needed to be due. Another thing I would change would be the way i tried to memorize my lines. I did not really spend that much time studying my lines like I should have and that really effected the performance that my group put on. I would also have added more feeling into my character because my co-actor and I had little emotional connection and we needed that to make our scene because our scene was based on love and heartbreak. Overall I would like to be in touch with the character within me to do the best performance for the next time.
ReplyDeleteI was in a group with Jay'Naisha Nelson and Andrew Figueroa. The scene that my group and I did was "The Street." Our group did well on being off-book with a mix of improvisation. We were organized and most importantly, since Jay and Andrew took their time to find the character analysis and subjective analysis. Because they were able to do that successfully, they were able to create new characters and make it realistic for the audience. After hearing about the news of how my group performed, everyone told me how the background sound design sounded like the setting of new York and the actors being realistic. What I wish I could've done differently is that I should've had a technical rehearsal with my group. We had one in school, but we didn't have one with each other outside. In a way we did, but it was short. However, during the actual performance, we were overall off-book, we had subjective analysis with characters, sound design was realistic, and our dramatic structure was organized. Overall, I am satisfied and impressed with our group and what we had to perform.
ReplyDeleteAngeline Soto-------> Nkiru
After my performance I believe that there are some things that my group could've done better as a whole. We could've rehearsed our lines more which would've led to our execution of lines being advanced proficient. I also could've created a fourth wall in front of me so the audience could hear me better. Our costumes, gestures, and music in the background fit the skit.If we would've executed the lines, then we would've had one of the best plays in the class. The process leading up to the play was stressful. My group had many problems on the way such as a gender change along the way. Also, it was different working with two females and having to compromise to what they wanted. It actually taught me that you can work well with people who are not even your best friend. Although we worked hard, we still weren't able to have all of our lines completely memorized. More rehearsals would've been beneficial to my group. Overall, it was a learning and humbling experience working with my group members, Nancy and Iman.
ReplyDeleteNow that the project is over, I would have wanted to spend more time rehearsing even though my fellow actress and I did very well with out lack and constant absence of our director. If we practiced more, we would of had more time to give the scene feedback and comments needed to make our scene better than what it was. Also our stage directions would have been clearer if we practiced together more since we had one complication during the actual performance when it came to the opening scene. However this project has brought me closer to my fellow peers and made me more comfortable with the styles and customs of the acting world.

ReplyDeleteHonestly now that i have completed this project i think that we could have put in more time after school working on the project . I believe that my group rushed everything and we didnt plan out wisely and efficiently. As Mr peterson told me it would have been great seeing me take on the other role as a director or the character Elizabeth herself. One thing my group had trouble with also was the blocking and staging. initially we could have evoked more movement instead of being stuck in one place the whole entire time . i realized that kind of bore the audience , know that i look forward to continuing being a cast member of the Sweeney Todd play I can specifically potray some of these specific elenents. The job of the actor after all is to not make the audience interested but to reveal and tell a story unlike any other.
Now that the Acting and Directing project is over I now look back and realize many of the things I could have fixed. I feel that I should have really worked on developing myself into my character. This would have helped with my performance a lot. Being an actor, this should have been my first priority other than memorizing my lines. This was also another aspect of this project that I wish I would have spent more time on. It was a situation in which I knew my lines well enough to perform but not really down packed. I feel that I did not fully prepare myself for my performance by not fully understanding my lines. In the future I can prevent this feeling of not feeling confident in my lines by unpacking my characters personality and really following the beats in my script. All major beats and miniature ones. I feel that if I do this, the next time I will perform there will be a much better outcome than my performance on the play "And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson"

ReplyDeleteWe have recently finished our directing project that was starting two months ago. If I were able to redo the project, I would use time management more wisely. I would approach group work in a different way. I feel that even though we were able to rehearsal oftentimes, the rehearsals were not focused; many times we did not get a lot of work done. As the director, I think that I should have pushed my actors to be off-book. If more of my rehearsals were no stop runs, it would be easier for my actors to use acting techniques and understand characterizations (G.O.T.E.) of their characters.I know that the collaboration in my group was beautiful, but I think that we needed to spend more time with characterizations and actually communicating with each other in the scene. Furthermore, I think that our design plan matched the ideas and vision of the play.
Now that the directing project its over, I wish I could have done more rehearsals and gotten to know my team prior to actually doing the project. Also, I wish I could have been more aware of the the timing so that everything would have been turned in by it's due date. Jordan and me, relied on the director, Marissa, to do some of the assignments such as directing questions but they didn't get done so we had to make up for loss of time. This eventually led to late assignments, extra work for the actors, and cramming for rehearsal time which was supposed to be set up by ALL of the group members. However without much of the director's assitance I feel that we still manged to turn in all parts of our project and were satisfied with our final performance. On my part I think I could've balanced my timing for when I should have been off book, and instead of last minute changes we could've prepared everything prior to the last two weeks of the project this way we made sure our lines were delivered even better.
ReplyDeleteLooking back at this directing project , i believe that my group should have been a little more prepared than. I dont think we used all the time well and we just didnt take it as serious as it was needed. However , we did the best that we could. My group had to perform courtship , which was a pretty jard scene because it had pretty basic language and the setting was really old. For our scene, my group setting was in an old 1800 style living room and the characters , Laura ( Amanee) and Elizabeth (Aaliyah) havubg tea and just conversing about Elizabeths love life with Horace Robeadeuax. I think we did well with our lines .. Especially me because the only lines i basically had was '' I dont Know. '' .. Overall i think my group did well. But we couldve done better. There is always room for improvement. .

Now that the directing project is over, one thing that my team and i could have done better was have a lot more rehersals scheduled that we did, which could have made our perfomnace even better. To ass on, another aspect that i felt that i could have improved personally was the using the blocking that i had in the scene. I could have interacted with the stage a lot more than i did when we did perform. Also, turning in all of the necessary parts for the directors book could have also been a lot better with myself personally. Despite all of the setbacks and mistakes made during the preparation for the play, i can honeslty say that my group members and i , specifically, did very well with the performance . Overall, the main thing that we could have done as a team to better ourselves was our preparation and memorization with the play.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have performed my scene, there are a lot of things I would do differently. The first thing I would do differently is explicitly give out tasks that everyone had to do in order to avoid any assignments being turned in late or not being turned in at all. Another thing I would change is who the director is. My director during the project was unreliable and it would get frustrating sometimes that it was only me and my scene partner in class. Also, I would demand mandatory rehearsals for the actors to ensure that the lines are memorized and focus more on things like blocking, expressions, and such things.
ReplyDeleteNow that my scene production is over I wished I memorized all of my lines and had a lot more rehearsals than my group accomplished. My group struggled with time management since getting lines memorized was very time consuming. My group could have worked harder to learn the lines. However our directing approach was to convey the theme of love to the audience through our character's dialogue. My character Laura was uncertain about love and marriage and wants her sister Elizabeth to explain it to her, but Elizabeth isn't sure about those matters either. In my scene I felt we should have made the character's goal more recognizable to the audience. However our use of props and sound design was very effective in conveying our theme of love.

Now that my theatre performance is over i can reflect deeply and say that I could have done a better job. To start of the way in which I prepared for the performance wasnt sufficent. I was an actor in the play and i didnt memorize my lines the way i should have. And my scene didnt have any good props nor did i have sound to make my scene come to life more. Also the blocking in my scene didnt seem reasonable to where my story was taking place. I could have worked better on that. I also could have worked better on time managment.
ReplyDeleteNow that this directing project is complete, I know that collaboration is very difficult. Although the director, co-actress, and I were good friends, that did not automatically mean we would put on o great scene. The extra work needed to be put in. However, we felt too comfortable with one another and didn't not hold each other accountable. Due to this, our scene were not as perfect as we desired it to be. Things were sort of rushed-from floor plans to rehearsals. Maybe if we looked past our friendships and focused on the graded aspect of this assignment, we would have taken this much more seriously. The props and the actresses' tones for the scene was good in my opinion however. I also noticed how my co-actress and I thought we could not pull off so many lines, but getting into the mood of the scene helped with the memorization and the words just flowed out of our mouths so how. . . but not all of the words were perfectly memorized, so in someone way, we improvised. Overall, this scene was calmly put together, but extra rehearsals may have given us a bit more energy to bring the scene to life.

ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of my directing project i was a bit nervous to perform. Yet, as i read over my scene, "Getting it Back" from Almost Mane, a couple times, my apprehension turned into excitement because i started to play with many parts of the scene adding gestures and voice expressions to really catch the audience's attention. I really had fun performing with my brother a couple times. The problem was that i never really got the chance to rehearsal with my real partner- Nazire. So when it came time to actually perform i got got worried and we really didn't know how to work with each other. Now that the project is over and i have learned all of my flows as a director and actor and what it takes to deliver a truly amazing performance, i will do everything in my power to do so next time i am presented with an opportunity to act or direct. Now that i'm not really working on a specific scene, i will find new ways to improve my acting skills. Some simple ways to do so is to practice activities like we do in the beginning of class at home or just to simply read more and expose myself to many kinds of movies and plays. I will specifically pay attention to how actors work with one another to deliver a spontaneous performance.
ReplyDeleteIn my scene I feel as though we did good. The only downfall was that of memorization. Even though we did not memorize there was a lot of emotion shown throughout the play. Another thing that would have helped would have been rehearsals because it makes you have to learn the lines to the scene. SO next time I will make sure the group has more rehearsal times where we actually practice the play.
ReplyDeletenow that my scenes are over I think there's a lot that we could have done better. I feel that we could have done more rehearsals to better prepare ourselves. I also think that we could have had more props and been more on time with our deadlines such as the lighting audition paper and contracts. now if I evaluate my team I also need to evaluate myself. I feel like I could have been a little more expressive and display my character a little more appropriately. I didn't not portray my characters actual real feelings to the audience. I also feel like I could have rehearsed more because at the end I had to rely on my line paper a little too much. we also needed to collaborate more as a team to make final decision. one argument that we had was the kiss at the end. even though the director felt that we should have done it me and my acting partner did not feel comfortable so we did not do it. but we did have a good acting tactic to get into our characters. we started arguing and becoming our character in order to be the character in the scene. we were Lendall and Gayle and can always and forever turn into those roles which I find is the most exciting part.
ReplyDeleteNow that the scenes are over, i think that my group should have practice more.Maybe if the actors were more prepared maybe the scene would have got a higher grade and would have been done more effectively and with more emotion and feeling. I think that there should have been more movement and strong voices. i believe that it all comes down to how much we prepared. If there would have been more preparation I do believe it would have been done at a better level then it was done at. I also think that as a director i could have added more input then maybe things could have got done like they were suppose to.
ReplyDeleteNow that my directing project is over I have learned many lessons. i have learned that i need to work better on time managment. I also could have done better with my memorization of my charachters lines. I didnt know her background fully which left me in a disadvantage. I also could have worked better with the scenery and props because it was supposed to be in a bedroom but the audience couldnt tell. But something that went well was the way in which we prepared. We werent fully prepared but this will be guidance for next time so we can do things right.
ReplyDeleteIf I could do my theatre scene over again, I would have had more rehearsals with Anthony and Tamia. Since, Anthony and I had good chemistry in the scene, adding emotion to the scene was the easy part. If we had rehearsed more and knew our lines without needing a crutch- we would have done well. Also, I should have rehearsed at home. My schedule is tight, but I know I could have found 30 minutes a night to read and learn my script. In addition, I would go to Mr. Peterson for assistance on blocking. We don't have any experience in theatre and it was confusing knowing what blocking would have been most successful.
ReplyDeleteIf I do my theatre scene over I would spend more time rehearsing. I would have put my effort into my scene to make it dazzle. The scene we selected was a little bland and I dont believe my true skills shined in my performance. I know I am much capable of more than what I gave. I felt my preparation was week and I failed to step up as a director. Next time I will make sure I really shine in my performance.
ReplyDeleteNow that my theater scene is over, I realize that I could have definitely used more props. I should have worn regular shoes or pants. I also could have used more emotion. I need to work on emotion overall, because I don't usually show much of that. I also could have rehearsed more. Though I knew my lines, it wasn't enough. I should have practiced the emotions more, as well as the actions that were to be done in the scene. Also, I should have annotated my script better. If I had, I would have been able to analyze the script better, and I would have been able to add more to the scene.
