Do Nows prove especially important pieces of study guides as you will need to know the content that belongs to each time period as well as defining it.
The actions we are doing in class are very fun, but i wish we could do more of things like the machine that could interest our class to doing things we have fun doing. Maybe we could do a role play in which we can receive characters and we could improvise that help us weave the past & current lessons together. The morality plays of the Roman era were very interesting. I believe that Christians needed the plays in order to push their beliefs onto the people. The plays in my perspective were a passive push that condemned the peoples beliefs to being "reborn" with Christian plays.
ReplyDeleteThe topic we are doing in class this quarter is fun. We are not just learning about acting skills but we are learning a more profound side of theater at least I never saw before. I think its cool to learn about the history of something before going to depth about it. I have never seen an actual Roman or Greek play besides the ones that I watched with the class but I would really like to have the experience of the plays first hand. I think ancient plays have a lot value to them and offer the audience a lesson that can be learned. I think this quarter requires more focus and studying than the others because we have so many more things to learn than how to be an actor, and that is a good challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe activities we are doing in class are fun. I think one thing that will help us maybe understand it more is like actually acting out how the people back then performed and like just do more performances that relate to the ancient theatre. The performances have a lot of value to them as I can tell, maybe we should do more performances like them in order to fully understand it.
ReplyDeleteThe activities we are doing so far this quarter are fun and educational. One thing that could help us all improve is actually acting out more of the plays that we are learning about. This way, we can get a better understanding of the plays and when we act of those plays we will take away the important messages. We should also watch more videos in class on the plays being performed by other people beforehand so that we know how to portray the characters before we attempt it ourselves. This quarter requires more note taking and more annotating skills than the previous quarters because we receive more readings for homework that require our full attention and understanding.
ReplyDeleteSo far in this quarter, the activities that we have done are very exciting. Learning about the Greek and Roman plays and playwrights will be very helpful later in life and are fun. One thing that i feel as though we can improve on is actually acting in more of the Greek and Roman plays that we are learning a bout, instead of just reading and taking notes on them. This will open everyone's view o theatre a lot more and will make them feel comfortable in the envoirnment that they are in. With all of the handouts and new material that we are learning, it is essential for us to take quality notes on everything and ask questions to further our understsnding of what we are learning. This quarter reuires a lot more focus and energy from us as students, and i believe that this can be done by doing a lot more exciting activities in class.
ReplyDeleteSo far in this quarter, the activities that we have done so far have been really fun and exiting in the class room. Learning about the Greek and Roman plays and playwrights will be very useful in my life and is fun to learn about. One thing i feel that needs improvement is this the Greek and Roman plays that can be broken down into parts since its something new we are learning.
ReplyDeleteThis quarter has been interesting. We have learned how theatre evolved overtime. Theatre began in early times to today. It has evolved through the times of early times to Greek, to Rome, to the medieval times, and finally today. The most interesting and finest lesson we learned was the morality plays in the medieval times. To me it was interesting because it is something that we all go through in our everyday life. Morality plays have to do with the vices and virtues battling against each other to win the soul of every man. This relates to everyone today because we go through a stage of which side to pick.

so far we have learned Medieval theatre , Early theatre, and about rome plus greece. We have also done performance such as the oedipus play created by sophocles in which one peson in the group represented him and the others represented the chorus . Then we moved on and acted a morality play in small groups . projects like this help to increas our social life and to be more responsible. I cant not stress it enough that the most interesting form of theatre we have learned was Medieval theatre because it involved messages around the church and reflect common views that are illustrated today. Now we have moved forward into shakespeare and elizabethen ,which would be more modern type of theatre , that i think would be hard for me to comprehend.
ReplyDeleteDuring this unit, my peers and I have learned about the Elizabethan Theatre, Medieval theatre, Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, and the Early Theatre. I've seen how the art of drama has changed throughout the periods. Structure, Playwrights, Acting skills, and Society have changed. One example of this is when in Ancient Rome had used theatre in order to spread a Christian belief. These plays consisted of stories from the bible. They were then performed to those who could not readd or afford the bible. This way the Church was able to spread their message and reach out to those who could not have access to their messages and beliefs. However, over time this has changed by the Medieval Theatre came along. No longer did they spread only the Christian belief, but also showed their acting skills to those outside the town. With the pageant wagons, actors were able to move their scenery in order to portray that the setting has been changed. This allowed the actors to have a dressing room area and a storage space. Over time theatre has changed drastically leading from one period to another. Our next lesson is about the Elizabethan Theatre during the period when Queen Elizabeth enjoyed these acting plays.

This unit, we have learned about early theatre, ancient Greek theatre,Roman theatre, and Medieval theatre. The modern theatre's foundations are from these periods in time. We have seen how ideas and structures in the theatre have changed. For example, the theatron in Greece was built on a hill and has stone seats. In Rome, the theatron was built on flat land, and the seating area was elevated. The roman idea was based off of the greek idea, but the roman ideas added innovative changes. Also, the chorus was diminishing from early theatre to greek theatre. Morality plays were important to the church. These plays allowed the church to get their values across without making people read the bible. Morality plays spread the religion of christianity and taught which good values people should have. The morality plays were very important.
ReplyDeleteSo far we are learned about medival theater, ancient greece, and ancient rome theater. The activities so far are fun and a learning experience. For example, the warm up about freeze improv helped/opened my perspective about my improvasation skills. Learning about the ancient greek and roman theater styles have made me think about how today our theater styles are so similar. For example, our stage area is more like a combination of an arena and a thrust and we have a raised stage just like the ancient roman theater styles. We have adopted so much theater styles from that tine period that without it our theater wouldnt have been possible. In medival plays we learned about the morality plays, plays that invole teachings fron the bible and they are trying to convey a message. I think that the morality plays are important to todays theater because they can teach todays youth about personal values that every person should posess.
ReplyDeleteThe material that we're learning so far in the unit has been bery interesting. Most people only hear about theatre being related to Greek and present day. Now I've learned so much about other aspects such as medieval theatre. The connection between relgion and theatre was unknown to me before this unit. I also didn't know that the location for Greek theatre mattered. I now know that Greeks built their theatres on land that was on a slope unlike Romans who build fromo flat ground up. Overall, this unit has brought great intrest and I'm excited to learn more.
ReplyDeleteI like the lesson we are learning about because it is a great learning experience and coming up with ideas on the spot is always fun. I love the warm-ups and I especially love the one when we freeze and it was something we all learned from. Morality plays will help you think on your feet and will help you become better at thinking on your feet.I hope that the lesson is as fun as the readings we are given and I look forward to knights of shining armor and duels and religion battles. These plays teach you about things that happened before and during mid-evil times and they will help us further in newer units to come.
ReplyDeleteMorality plays were extremely important to the Church. Morality plays always taught a moral and the hero was the person that taught it. It was confusing at first until my group actually performed it in class. My group was actually one of the few that had a successful morality play. The moral of our play was greed is not always good and beauty is not everything. It was successful and it was clear to the audience what we wanted our audience to get. Another thing that is wierd is Elizabethean Theatre. It is weird because the people with less money got better seats. That was extremely strange to me because of the fact that in todays society, the people with better seats have more money. That is something that differs from the past and modern day society. Morality plays are extremely important to todays society and current day. Overall, the things I've learned in this unit have enhanced my interest in it.
ReplyDeleteThe morality plays we are learning in class are useful for teaching us lessons and old theatre. These plays are useful for lessons that we can learn outside of school as well. The plays are able to also give us a sense of what old theatre was about as well. We learn their society structure and how they showed their wealth. we learned several things that give us a look at original theatre. We also learned what the modern day theatre was based off of as well.
ReplyDeleteThe month of February has been very hard on me. Learning about early theater, ancient Rome, ancient Greece, and the Medieval ages has been a struggle. It is really hard for me to distinguish which events happened in which era. However everything that we have learned has been very interesting and vital for my knowledge. This is why I don't feel very confident about the test that we did today. Besides that, I have enjoyed the mini scenes that we performed in front of the class because they helped me to think fast on my feet and improvise from things that we learned in a short amount of time. Relating to theater class, I have also joined the musical and I've been having a blast! I believe that theater class will help me improve in the musical as well and vice versa. This month has been challenging but I am doing better already.
ReplyDeleteLearning about early theatre isn't so surprising to me only because I know most of the facts already from outside knowledge. I think that refreshing it in my head helps for me to remember the things that i have already learn, but eventhough I know most of the facts, there are some things that I didn't and still don't know about like morality plays. Morality plays were very important for the time that they occurred more often because it gave the people something to look forward to watching. I don't think that they are important anymore. Also, the activities that we are doing in class are okay and do add some energy to me to try to get through the rest of the day.

ReplyDeleteI find myself to be enjoying this theare unit the most. The lesson on Greek theatre interested me the most. It was nice and enjoyable to see a really dramatic group of people preform a piece of art I guess you could say. My favorite Greek play so far (because it's the only one I've seen parts of) is Oedipus Rex. The plot of the play is very interesting and the actors in the play do a good job at bringing drama to the scene. When looking at Rome , you see that they developed different things like an arena styled theater and they also took out the orchestra. But, I like the Greeks more. Their form of theater was more professional and it was more enjoyable. Romans only wanted to see blood and flesh , which can get boring after a while.
Learning about Greek theatre has been very interesting so far. My mindset when i heard medieval times, i thought of jousting on horses with men in armour. But now i realize that it has a deeper meaning between it. The story of Oedipus Rex was a fun mini play to put on because of all the dramatic gestures we did. The mini plays really help me capture the meaning of the Greek, Roman, and Medieval history. I'm actually excited to keep learning about this topic because it helps me understand the basics of acting and theatre. I really hop to do more like this in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little stressed due to all the new information we are learning in theatre class. While I think learning the origins of acting in the early theatre, medieval, greek and roman time period is likely to be a 1,000 dollar worth question on jeopardy that will win you tonight's game, keeping up with all the morality plays, acting styles plays, and playwrights is a lot harder than keeping up with the kardashians. (no pun intended) However, I do find the Do Nows helpful in order to review the information learned in class. I also, love when the class acts out their version of morality plays and the greek chorus.

This unit for theatre class we have learned about early theatre. Theatre was once performed in a chorus fashion with about 30 men who honored the god Dionyus. The chrous then shifted when the first renown actor Thespis decided to step out of the chorus. Over time more important leaders decided that there needed to be more actors , as more actors were added to the scene the chrous began to shrink. Also another important point of theatre was expressed during the medieval period. The churches used theater as a way to tell the stories of the bible to the people who couldnt read the bible.
ReplyDeleteSo far in quarter 3, I have become much more interested in theatre. This is because knowing its origins has allowed me to understand the basics of theatre. I think understanding Ancient Greek and Roman theatre as well as Medieval Theatre, helps students grasp how theatre has evolved into what it is today. Knowing how people used theatre to tell stories that changed lives or to praise gods allows me to understand how important theatre is. Important playwrights and actors introduced new ideas to theatre, and without them, there would be a lack of relevance of theatre, in my oppinion.
ReplyDeleteso far in quarter 3 we have learned about the histoy of theatre and how it has progessed over time, which is interesting. This is so because we learn how in Early theatre they went from telling their stories to showing them which became advanced over the years in Ancient Greek,Roman, and Medieval theatre. However, the best part aboutthis unit is lkearning about all the different playwrights and evn playwriters because if it wasn't for them I don't think theatre would exist now or even be as famous/popular as it is til thids very day.
ReplyDeleteThe morality plays were a way to teach and appeal to the general public which not many movies do today. Usually we see movies with so many special effects and the same plot for everu genre. It makes the audience wonder, "What am I paying for?" The true heart of theatre lies within the interactions between the audience and the actors. Morality plays allowed viewers to connect emotionally and mentally to the plot of the story. How many people can actually say they've been in an explosion and survived? For me the morality plays mean interpreting the characters to fit your own life. In being able to do so, one can change his/her life for the better it just takes for them to be shown to their own eyes.
ReplyDeleteCurrently in Theatre class we have been doing many activities regarding acting styles. We have seen clips and have acted out some of the performances we learned. The many different acting styles have been very interesting. We have explored Ancient Greek, Ancient Rome and Medieval Theatre. I really enjoyed learning about the medieval theatre because of their many ideas. They were also very creative in trying to use their special effects with the limited technology they had. Another interesting thing was the morality plays. This made me realized how most of the shows we watch today are all influenced in some ways by these morality plays. The good verses the bad.
ReplyDeleteTheatre class this marking period has been fun. Learning about the Romans and Greeks and how they did somethings similar and some things differently is really interesting. Also this particular unit has showed me how theatre can in fact tie into other subjects. learning how theatre helped to spread messages of Christianity really is interesting. This brought to my attention how universal theatre is and can be. Another thing that captivated my attention was the comedy plays. Although they were created some long, odd, years ago they sill make me laugh. It's really interesting to also connect some of the famous comedic characters to modern day shows and people. It's amazing to see how characters from so long ago still firmly live through modern day actors and actresses.
ReplyDeleteCurrently in theatre class we have been studying theatre in different periods of history. Its interesting to see how it varied over time and how society influenced them. For example how in England during the Elizabethan era many non-legitimate actors were whipped or stoned in the street while in today society we idolize actors and actress. Even those who are not famous we respect because we revere their talent persistence and commitment to the arts. But also it is fun to draw the similarites between Greek and Roman theater. While Greece was in decline Rome was just beginning. While in Greece deep philosophical but relatable drams and plays were more popular in Rome fabula togata was more popular which is still relevant in modern sociiety. Some examples of those are Family Guy and The Simpsons. Because of all of this I have been much more interested in theater and also how it could relate to so many different subjects like Shakespeare in literature, the history that goes along with and speaking in different languages like Spanish
ReplyDeleteIn theater class for the past weeks, in class we have been learning about the history of theater itself. We have learned about how theater has evolved over the past centuries. We have learned that theater was created and used by people to show and not tell the story they were telling. In Greece, theater was used to praise the gods, mostly Dionysius, as a ritual. In Ancient Rome, theater was used as a form of entertainment. After it was used to spread Christianity to a more wider perspective. During the Elizabethan Times Theater was brought to an arena and made possible for everyone to see. In all of these time periods, great playwrights arose and changed the way theater was written and acted for all. We have learned a lot this past quarter and I am excited to learn more about the art of theatre.
ReplyDeletei just want to start off by saying that i really enjoyed learning about the morality plays. It was a great learning experience and on top of that i got to actually join my group and step into action. it was amazing how the actors(classmates) showed vice versus virtue with the devil on one side and the angel on the other. i think it was very interesting because it is someting that so common. For example when you look at a cartoon show or animated adult tv series you notice how a devil will pop up on someones shoulder convicing them to go against the morals during the medieval time period.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed learning about the morality plays. It actuality didnt know that they did start with the religion of christianity and they used these to spread their message to the people who werent able to read the bible. Even though they initially didn't believe in these plays or opposed the idea of them they used it to their advantage. I was really glad to learn that piece of information

ReplyDeleteSo far in quarter 3, we've learned the history of ancient theatre and the original forms of the work. From Ancient Rome to Ancient Reece, we've learned the formations of the theaters as well as techniques used to put on performances. We've the learned that Morality Plays, given a good side and a bad side have come from stories from the Bible. Ancient theater was based off Christian principles. But as the church began t disagree with the plays, theatre has taken its own route away from churches. Putting on our own performances in class with our peers is fun because we are able to be creative while given a topic or person to reinact. Interacting has helped me understand the difference role of the chorus as well as the lead roles.
We have learned a lot about the history of theatre so far. We have learned about ancient theatre, greek theatre, roman theatre, and medeveil theatre. It has been interesting to see theatre change over time. Theatre was once made up of only a chorus who told a story, then Thespis became the first actor and began what appears to be the start of a gradual revolution in theatre. Soon the architecture of plays was changed, more and more actors were included while the chorus slowly dwindled, and the view on theatre changed. At first it was seen to be a way to worship the Gods in Ancient Greece, then in Rome it was viewed as simply a comedy or form of entertainment. Finally, theatre became a way of spreading the message of the church through morality plays.
ReplyDeleteThe things we are doing in class is fun and interesting. Learning about the history of theatre makes it more then just acting but you also get to gain knowledge at the same time on the different context. Learning about the many different cultures also show us how theatre can be so interesting. it is also fun in our class because we take there ideas and act it out the way they will in order to step in their shoes and be just like them.
ReplyDeleteIn February, it has been interesting to learn about how the church was able to affect different times in History, especially the Medieval Era. The Medieval Era included molarilt plays, which enabled the illerate people in the society to learn good morals and good ways of life. I think that there should be more examples of those plays in today's society; therefore, we as a people would be stronger and genial. I think that learning actual content is harder than learning the ways of acting and directing. It has enabled me to push myself and my ways of life. I have more to memorize and learn. For the rest of the year, I have not been able to just push theatre aside. I have to actually work for my grade and my understanding.
ReplyDeleteIn quarter 3, we have learned about the morality plays in the Medieval Era. These plays had virtues and vices which taught good morals and a good way of life. Morality plays allow people to reflect on their action. Similar to these plays were the pageant wagons. The pageant wagons traveled around town telling the morality and passion plays to the illiterate. All of the eras we have learned in some way tie back to each other. The medieval plays are similar to the Ancient Greece plays.
ReplyDeleteIn quarter three it was interesting to learn about the morality plays and medilevil era. These places have described the origination of the elements and genres of early theatre. They have gave me troubles about memorization but I will work on the details of that. I have to work on the theatre element of things because if i do that then i can bring up my grade substantially. So I will study a lot more and catch up on my journals and hopefully that'll do it.
